History was created in the Bendigo Bank Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League last night, with the very first ever three-way tie in the 2015 Berry Powell Medal.
After sixteen rounds, Talbot playing coach Matt Smith, Newstead young gun Michael Dalrymple and Maldon star Hayden Kelly were all knotted on 19 votes at the top of the leaderboard for the MCDFNL’s highest honour, becoming the first joint winners of the Berry Powell Medal since 1974 when Wayne Deledio from Dunolly and David Zimmer of Maryborough Rovers tied for the award.
Campbells Creek midfielder Daniel Kilmeck was just behind the trio with 16 votes, with Ryan Guareschi from the Maryborough Rovers and Navarre captain Louis Hannett on 14 votes in third spot.
The dual winner theme for the night continued in A Grade netball, as Natte Bealiba’s Naomi Medlyn and Navarre’s Jess Parry tied for the Nalder-Tracey Trophy, becoming the first dual winners of MCDFNL netball’s top award since Harcourt’s Suzi Rinaldi and Trentham’s Erin Bourke tied for the award back in 1996, with both Medlyn, who made it back-to-back wins, and Parry polling 28 votes for the season to finish nine votes clear of Newstead’s Lisa Britt, Carisbrook’s Sherriden Byrne and Lexton’s Krystal Fisher. with Natte Bealiba’s Ash McClelland and Trentham’s Stacey Parks one vote back with 18 votes.
All award winners are listed below, and spreadsheets containing full listings of all football and netball votes from both last night as well as last Monday night's Junior Presentation Night and Vote Count are attached at the bottom of this page.
