Trentham FNC President Troy Adams has been awarded the WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country Volunteer of the Year award on Friday night at the AFL Victoria 2015 Community Football Awards Gala Dinner.
AFL Victoria CEO Steven Reaper announced Troy as the WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country Volunteer of the Year in front of over 550 people at the dinner which also recognised the outstanding contribution made from volunteers during the 2015 season across Auskick and Coaching.
Troy’s contribution to the Trentham FNC and Maryborough Castlemaine District Football & Netball League has been outstanding over a long period of time and has included a number of achievements for the club.
Troy started at the Trentham Football Netball Club in 1991 as a player. Winning the MCDFNL Reserves League Best and Fairest in 1995 and playing significant roles in the finals and 1992 and 1996 premierships. He also met his future wife while a player at the Club and moved to Trentham permanently to start his family life. In 1996 he was the U17’s coach for the runner-up Premiers.
He returned to the Junior Club as a parent in 2001 where he held many roles across his son’s junior seasons including Auskick coordinator, Coach, and Committee member.
He returned to the Senior Club as President in 2006 and was part of the major project of the netball court upgrade which included extension, resurfacing and building of a new netball shelter.
In 2010 he took on the role of Club President again and has remained in this position since. In the past 5 years Troy has been part of several major Club projects including New Change Rooms, state of the art Lighting upgrade allowing our Club to be one of only 2 in our league to be able host night matches for both football and netball, installation of a children's playground at the reserve and the conversion of the old change rooms into an all-weather gym.
Troy has also implemented this year the Commitment to Culture Program and the Outside the Locker Room Program to ensure that our players develop off-field as well as on-field.
Last year Troy was recognised by the MCDFNL for his commitment to the sport receiving the Max Martin Administrators Award.
Troy is leading the Club to develop sustainably through a focus on junior development in both football and netball. This year saw 12 senior football players who have all come through Trentham's junior ranks. All major fundraising events and sponsorship are invested back into the Club’s facilities to provide our players and supporters with the best grounds possible to enjoy and succeed at their sport. Troy’s vision has set the Club in a successful position for future generations to come. He is a true servant of the Club, of Trentham and of grassroots football and netball, and is well deserving of this nomination.
As explained by AFL Victoria Country Football Manager Brett Connell, the Volunteer of the Year award is presented for strong, innovative and progressive “off field” administration.
‘The Worksafe AFL Victoria Country Volunteer of the Year award seeks to highlight the efforts of an individual whose inspiring actions and dedication have made a significant difference to their local football and netball club in country regions of Victoria”, Connell mentioned.
“Each year, a winner is selected from nominations submitted by clubs and leagues across all regions of AFL Victoria Country who they believe has given notable voluntary service to Australian Football and who works for the best interest of the game.”
The Bendigo Bank Maryborough Castlemaine District Football & Netball League wishes to congratulate Troy on his fantastic achievement.
