The Tigers didn't have the best start to its 2017 campaign when it took on a much improved Maryborough Rovers outfit in the season opener last Friday.
The Tigers went down by 10-goals in what is hoped to be a small bump on the road in its quest for premiership success.
The Tigers had a disappointing end to its season last year, going down to Newstead by eight-points in the Second Elimination Final.
The Tigers expect to make finals this year under the coaching helm of Matt Brown who is in his second season as Senior coach. Brown has been with the club for 11 seasons and has previously spent four years as an assistant coach.
He is experienced when it comes to finals and is an asset to have calling the shots.
The club said goodbye to Mitch Kennedy, Pat Pekin and Luke Evans during the off-season but welcomed the talent of Tom and Liam Cullinan; Nigal Reid, Jake and Kyle Eyers; Josh McVitty and Steele Cox.
Jake Eyers is one of the young talented players to watch in 2017. He was recruited from Sebastopol in the off-season after winning the Reserves best and fairest at the club. He is a ball winning midfield who has impressed in match simulation; and has an excellent kick.
Jimmy Templeton is another player to watch. He is in his second season as captain of the team and has taken his fitness to another level. He will play some new roles this season and hit the scoreboard more frequently.
The Tigers highlight Talbot as one of the teams to watch this year.
Netball
The Tigers started its season in high hopes with an eight-goal win over Maryborough Rovers in round one.
It made the finals last season before being bundled out by eventual Preliminary finalists Natte Bealiba by 15-goals in the Elimination Finals.
The Tigers are working hard to make the top six this season and will be further boosted by its second win of the year over Newstead if opportunities present itself to take the honours.
Kimberly Roberts is coaching the team. Her resume at netball level is impressive. She is a life member of the club, a two time A Grade premiership-playing coach, three times runner-up playing coach, two time B Grade playing premiershop coach and was the 2015 MCDFNL RSL coach. How is that for a record!
The team said goodbye to Julie Anderson who went to the Maryborough Rovers. Caitlin Howell crosses from Avoca, Julia Coates returns from overseas. Cara Eastick steps up from the juniors while Kimberly Roberts, the star that she is, returns after having her second child.
Cara Eastick is one of the young stars to watch. She is in her first season out of juniors with plenty of potential and speed. She has represented the MCDFNL juniors in squad teams.
Julia Coates is another star to watch. She is experienced, fit, determined and a team player.
Lexton believe that Maryborough Rovers is one of the teams to beat, and it saw them first hand in round one.
