JUNIOR BASKETBALL COACHING CAMP

Basketball Mount Gambier has been successful in securing funding for a Coaching Camp over the weekend of December 20th and 21st. The City of Mount Gambier Junior Sports Assistance Fund is providing funding for this Specialist Coaching through the generous sponsorship of the Mount Gambier and District Community Branch of the Bendigo Bank.

Dean Kinsman, former Head Coach of the Women’s Program at the Australian Institute of Sport and the National Junior Women’s Coach of the Gems, will be in action at the Ice House from Saturday morning until Sunday afternoon running a series of specialised sessions for Junior Lakers Squad members, the senior Talent Identification group and Under 14 Boys who play in the Summer Blue Division competition.

Following the success of Kinsman’s visit in September, Officials of Basketball Mount Gambier are expecting Junior Lakers representative players and coaches to take up this fantastic opportunity. Local Coaches are also invited to attend the sessions over the weekend.

Kinsman was the first ever SA Country Basketball Development Officer and has established himself as one of the best coaches on the national scene and displays a special passion for developing juniors. He excels in the area of teaching the fundamental skills of the game and their application in game situations.

The main aims of this Camp are to introduce the Lakers juniors and Coaches to current techniques and new trends in coaching juniors in the sport of basketball, improve the playing standards of the representative teams and to enable Coach Kinsman to assess the progress made since his visit in September.

This Camp is part of the Program involving one of the long term objectives of Basketball Mount Gambier to produce junior basketballers and coaches, who continually perform successfully at State and National Championships.
