The Tasmanian Football Council, in conjunction with AFL Tasmania, congratulates Emma Humphries on being drafted to the Western Bulldogs with Pick 7 in the AFL Women’s Mini Draft. The draft was held in the lead up to the second exhibition AFL Women’s match to be played at Etihad Stadium on Sunday 16th August between Melbourne and the Bulldogs.
Emma plays in the Tasmanian Women’s League for the Burnie Dockers and is playing in just her second year of footy. Emma won the Burnie Dockers Best First Year Player in 2014, as well as representing the State against Queensland at North Hobart Oval and being named best on ground.
Emma was an automatic selection for the State team in 2015 and again played extremely well against Queensland, a game which came under the watchful eye of Western Bulldogs and Queensland coach, Craig Starcevich.
Emma is an excellent runner who players through the midfield and can play both outside and inside roles for her team.
At twenty years of age and in only her second year of football, Emma has a wonderful future ahead of her and looks certain to be included in AFL Tasmanian’s inaugural AFL Female Academy.
Tasmanian Football Council General Manager, Barry Gibson, said Emma’s selection was fantastic for the promotion for female footy in the State.
“As a developing female football state, we have a lot promising female participants that aspire to play at the highest level, so Emma’s selection is testament that with the right commitment opportunities at the next level will open up,” Mr Gibson added.
Emma will get the opportunity to showcase her wares nationally, with the game set to be telecast live on CH7.
