BWEL Accolades Torches Western Warriors

With three weeks remaining in the BECOL Season, the 2 senior games this past weekend were pivotal to decide which teams will improve their playoff run, and who will injure their standings.  On Friday night, Western Warriors entered the game with a perfect 3 – 0 record, going up against BWEL Accolades(2 – 1).  A win would clinch a playoff berth for Western Warriors, and it would propel BWEL Accolades from #6 to #3 seed in the standings.

At the end of the first quarter, Western Warriors were leading 17 – 15, behind Ivan “Stainless” Flowers’ 8 points, while Ryan Zuniga sank 6 points in the quarter for BWEL Accolades. In the second quarter, BWEL was only able to muster 4 points, while Western Warriors scored 15 points in the quarter to extend the lead at the half, by 9 points, leading 30 – 21.  Again, Ivan Flowers sank 8 points in the second quarter, tallying 16 points in the first half.

In the third quarter, BWEL was able to cut the lead to 3 points, 36 – 33, with Winston Pratt scoring 5 points in the quarter, while Western Warriors scored only 6 points. As the lead began to diminish, BWEL Accolades were gaining confidence, as they took the lead in the fourth quarter, with 4 minutes remaining, and they were able to close off the game strong, recording a huge win, 56 – 51.

For the winners, Winston “Jun Jun” Pratt sank 23 points, while grabbing 7 rebounds and dishing 3 assists, while his UB team mate, Ryan Zuniga chipped in with 10 points and 7 boards.  In a losing effort, Ivan “Stainless” Flowers finished the game with 23 points and 4 rebounds.  With the win, BWEL Accolades are now 3 – 1, holding on to the #3 seed, while handing Western Warriors their first loss in the season.  The absence of Keith Acosta for Western Warriors were obvious, as their dominance in the paint was greatly diminished.  On Saturday night, the undefeated Hydro E-3 handed Western Warriors(3 – 2) their second consecutive loss of the season, now having to win their last game against Christ for Life(2 – 3) to secure a playoff spot.
