Mega Foods Evens The Score

With one week remaining on the BECOL schedule, Mega Foods(4 – 2) went up against Hydro(3 – 3), as they were both fighting for the #2 seed in the Over 35 category.  Mega Foods jumped out to an early start, taking a 13 – 7 lead at the end of the first quarter, behind Ali Awe’s 8 points, where he sank two three pointers.  The lead was extended to 11 points at the half, as Mega Foods was leading 27 – 16.  In the 2nd quarter Mega Foods had a 13 point lead, while maintaining a double digit lead for most of the first half.  However, Hydro bounced back in the third quarter, where they outscored Mega Foods 15 – 6 in the quarter, cutting the lead to 2 points, 33 – 31, going into the fourth quarter.  In the fourth, the closest Hydro was able to come was within 2 points, as Mega Foods sank two key shots, to secure the 52 – 43 win.  More than likely, these two teams will square off in the first round of the playoffs for the over 35 division.

Joseph “Ali” Awe finished with the game high, 18 points with 3 assists, while Eldon Gillett and Karim Juan finished with 12 and 9 points respectively.  In a losing effort, Joe Clark scored 15 points while grabbing 10 boards for Hydro, while Stephen Usher added 10 points.  Mega Foods out-rebounded Hydro 36 – 30, while Hydro bench outscored Mega Food 25 – 14.  Both teams went on an 8 – 0 scoring run in the game, while Mega Foods lead for 23 minutes of the game, while Hydro had the lead only for 2 minutes of the game.
