Western Warriors Clinched Playoff Berth

On Friday night, the game with Western Warriors(3 – 3) and Christ for Life(3 - 3) was pivotal, since only 1 team had clinched a playoff berth, while 5 other teams could make the playoffs, but their fate hinged on the outcome of this key game in the senior division.  Each team had to win this game in order to make the playoffs, and the loser would be bounced out of playoff contention.  Western Warriors got off to a great start, as they finished the first quarter with a 9 point lead, 15 – 6, behind Emerson “Emo” King’s 10 points, as he sank 2 three pointers to open the game.  At half time, Western Warriors maintained the lead, ending the half 25 – 18.  Christ for Life was able to remain in the game, as they trailed by only 7 points going into the final quarter of the game.  In the fourth quarter, a key offensive charging foul by Ivan Flowers, followed by a technical foul, allowed Christ for Life to creep within 3 points, with less than 2 minutes remaining in the game.

With Christ for Life fielding only 5 players, the pressure was now mounting on Western Warriors, who now loss control of the huge lead, and was crumbling down the stretch.  However, with 2 consecutive missed shots by Christ for Life, followed by 2 key shots by Ivan Flowers and Emerson King, Western Warriors were able to hold off the run, winning the game 50 – 42.  This win propelled Western Warriors into the playoffs, while sending home Christ for Life.  With the win, the defending champs, BNE Oilers(3 – 3) were also guaranteed a playoff spot.

In the win, Ivan Flowers lead Western Warriors with 15 points and 6 rebounds, while Emerson King netted 14 points and grabbed 5 boards and Keith Acosta helped out with 10 points and 8 rebounds, while providing great leadership for his team mates.  In a losing effort, Jamie Gillett had a great all around game, scoring 17 points, ripping 7 boards, dishing out 3 assists and claiming 3 steals, while Sherwyn Garbutt finished the game with 10 points and 6 rebounds.
