Harry Woolley displayed a magical performance netting eight goals for the home side. Following on from his hat-trick in the opening round, Wooley is the runaway leader of the Men’s Division 1 Golden Boot list with 11 goals after the completion of Round 2.

Other Deakin goalscorers from the blowout were Nicholas Musarra with a brace, followed by Shannon Kearns and Ipyana Killimbe with singles apiece. Deakin’s final two goals went to none other than their goalkeeper Brenton Walker!

On Sunday afternoon, Barwon Blue hosted Bell Park at Grovedale Reserve in the early game and ended up losing 1-4 in an upset. Cagdas Ozay and Sahin Gorgu both worked extremely hard for to bury braces each and seal the win for the All Whites. James Nichols managed to score the consolation goal for Barwon.

The later game at Grovedale Reserve saw Barwon Red take on Surf Coast. The two teams fought out a close contest all game until Jaime Monteith scored for the home side. As a result of the narrow win, Barwon Red now sits 2nd on the ladder, wedged in between Deakin Black and Deakin Gold.

Barwon Heads suffered an upset at their Village Park home ground to Deakin Ducks Black in a close encounter, eventually going down 1-2 to the Students. The visitors’ playing coach Jonathon Ray netted one goal, while captain Timothy Brain followed up from his single last week against Barwon with another goal against the Heads. Robert Armstrong scored a single for Barwon Heads making it his second for the season.

Looking resplendent in their new kit, Drysdale hosted Geelong at Howard Glover Reserve on Sunday. Geelong opened strongly in the first half and walked into the rooms at half time 2-0 up, however both teams agreed there was still more goals to be scored. After the break Geelong scored another goal which seemed to spark Drysdale into action. After taking on multiple players in the box, Rhys Clapp earned a penalty for Drysdale that was finished by Nicholas Hopper. The three individual goalscorers for Geelong included Arijan Veljan, Zoran Talevski and Amritpal Singh Chhina.

The last remaining Deakin team in Division One, Deakin Ducks Green, had a close battle with the Ocean Grove based Surfside Waves at Deakin’s Waurn Ponds campus. The Students won 3-2 thanks to Emmanuel Oteng who scored a hat trick. The captain of the visiting team Jack Pedler walked away with a single as did Alex Romaniw.

To complete the Round 2 weekend, Breakwater Eagles played victims to Geelong Rangers at Myers Reserve. The Rangers capped off a convincing performance by running out comfortable 3-0 winners. Miles Slater, Philip Dobie and Scott Davison all went into the rooms at full time with singles apiece. Scott Davison also scored last week in the Rangers’ 2-3 loss to Surf Coast, putting him on two goals for the season.
