THE TOP two teams have pulled away from the rest of the pack after the completion of Round 11 in the Geelong Region Men’s Division 1, with league leaders Rangers and second placed Surfside Waves disposing of Deakin Ducks and Breakwater Eagles respectively by the exact same scoreline.

Surfside Waves travelled to bottom side Breakwater Eagles and came away with an emphatic 4-0 triumph, courtesy of goals by Aaron Bond, Patrick Skuza, Mathew Kirk and Matthew Sheen.

Geelong Rangers also hit the road, taking on the always awkward Deakin Ducks at the Deakin University Sports Precinct in Waurn Ponds.

Veteran Troy Hardy netted a double, while Nicholas Hogan and the league’s leading goalscorer Darren McCallum both scored singles to confirm the 4-0 victory. It was MacCallum’s 13th goal for the season.

On Friday night, Petar Bozic’s lone goal was the only difference between the two combatants as Corio defeated Barwon Heads 1-0 at its Hume Reserve complex in Bell Park.

Barwon overcame Surf Coast 4-3 in a thriller at Banyul Warri Reserve on Sunday afternoon, allowing fourth placed Barwon to edge to within two points of third placed Surf Coast. Furthermore, Barwon has a game in hand over the Coasters.

All of Barwon’s goals came from singles to Keak Joak, Cooper McCormack, James Nichols and Riley Smith. Unfortunately, Surf Coast’s goalscorers were not submitted by the club.

In a spiteful encounter at the Drysdale Sporting Precinct, Drysdale and Lara United shared the spoils following a 1-1 draw which saw Drysdale’s Rory Dean stretchered off and taken to hospital following an unfortunate collision with the Lara goalkeeper.

Danny Graham scored the goal for Drysdale from the penalty spot, while the goalscorer of the Lara goal was not submitted by the club.

Following the completion of Round 11, Rangers leads at the top with 30 points and a game in hand over second placed Surfside Waves who are on 24 points. Surf Coast occupies third spot on 18 points with Barwon making up the top four with 16 points and a game in hand.
