Bleiberg impressed by what he sees at McEwen Reserve

Oakleigh Cannons coach Miron Bleiberg has never had more room to move between the touch line and the bench than he did in Shepparton on Saturday night.
Bleiberg, the National Premier League’s most qualified and experienced coach, said the technical areas at McEwen Reserve were the biggest he had ever seen and wished his players had access to some of that space.
‘‘I’ve been in all stadiums in Australia, including A-League and state league here and in Queensland and that was the biggest technical area I have ever met,’’ Bleiberg said.
‘‘The reason is because I suspect someone minimised the width of the field. There was such beautiful grass and such a spacious place, I bet the width of the pitch was no more than the 60 m required, which helped the local side. It was like an extra defender.’’
Suns board member Michael Crisera said the pitch conformed to competition standards, which dictate a playing surface must be between 60 m and 68 m wide.
Crisera said the surface area at McEwen was large enough for the field of play to be repositioned and the technical area was so large to allow coaches to get within 1 m of the touch line.
Bleiberg said he did not want to take any credit away from the Suns, who made his side work hard for its 1-0 win, and was generous in his praise of the newly-formed club.
