WILKES RILED BY DECISIONS AND QUESTIONS STANDARD OF REFEREES

Goulburn Valley Suns coach Melvyn Wilkes has called for more protection from match officials, as his side continues its search for a maiden National Premier Leagues point.

The Suns slumped to a sixth straight defeat against Green Gully Cavaliers on Saturday and Wilkes said the club was considering taking action about the standard of refereeing.

‘‘There is a complaints form we can put in and I think it’s time we do it,’’ Wilkes said.

‘‘We’ve now got more than enough video evidence from the first five home games to just have a look at the standard of the refereeing and I have no issue with supplying that information to (Football Federation Victoria) and just saying to use it to help educate the referees.

‘‘I’m not having a go at them, I’m just saying this level of refereeing is not adequate for the level we’re playing. It’s sometimes disgraceful and it is costing us points.’’

Wilkes said the Suns were denied a ‘‘stonewall’’ penalty when scores were level on Saturday and the decision not to award a free kick in the build-up to Green Gully’s winning goal cost his side the game.

‘‘We need more protection from the officials because we’re getting none and even the players now are questioning the officials,’’ he said.

‘‘A lot is going missed. I understand people make mistakes and miss things, but you can’t miss that much in a game, it’s rubbish.’’
