Naum Sekulovski has replaced Melvyn Wilkes as senior coach of Goulburn Valley Suns.
Sekulovski agreed to take the role in a caretaker capacity on Wednesday night.
The board decided the time was right for Wilkes to move into the technical director role he was initially intended for.
The Suns are currently bottom of the National Premier Leagues Victoria table with no points from their opening six games.
Goulburn Valley Suns chairman Geoff Dobson said Wilkes was always headed for the technical director role.
Dobson said the time was right, despite not having another senior coach lined up.
‘‘At the time, we couldn’t find a head coach because it was all done in a rush,’’ Dobson said.
‘‘We’ve recognised there is a lot of stress involved in taking on both the technical director and senior coach roles and we don’t want to overload him.
‘‘He is quite content with the decision.’’
Wilkes said the senior coaching role was always temporary and he was only engaged for six games.
‘‘They want me to concentrate on the technical director role and oversee all elements of the football club including the seniors,’’ Wilkes said.
‘‘Forgetting results, we have been competitive as a club and now the time is right for them to go and get themselves someone who can start to implement their philosophy in terms of seniors.’’
