Zois set to ask hard questions while he looks at trade window

Goulburn Valley Suns coach Peter Zois has put his squad on notice and no-one is safe.

With the National Premier Leagues Victoria transfer window opening in two weeks and the Suns rooted to the bottom of the table and six points off safety from relegation, Zois believes the club has two choices.

‘‘We’ve got four points from 11 games, so you have to ask yourself where do you want to be at the end of the year,’’ Zois said.

‘‘If you want to stay in the league, you need a reaction.

‘‘If you don’t, you don’t have a reaction.’’

That reaction will undoubtedly come in the transfer window.

Ex-Western Sydney Wanderers goalkeeper Jerrad Tyson has already been training with the club ahead of what promises to be a busy period for the Suns coach.

Zois said the biggest area of concern was squad depth — an issue that will come to the fore next week when the Suns take on Dandenong Thunder.

The Suns could be without up to six senior players, with Rossi Lagana, Daniel Chaabani, Fahed Alghazaly and Hernan Espindola all injured, while Stipo Andrijasevic and Frankie Lagana have suspensions to serve.

Zois was not shy to admit his squad needed more than just numbers — it needs quality too.

‘‘We have to stop leaking goals. It’s very difficult to persevere and be commanding when you’re copping so many goals,’’ Zois said.

‘‘We have to look at scoring more goals too, so I think it’s all over the park.

‘‘We have to sit down a bit more (with the board) and see what they really want.’’

With an A-League career behind him and plenty of contacts throughout the league, Zois certainly has the network and he isn’t afraid to use it.

‘‘I have my contacts and my network and I’ll give the board a list if they want to go that way,’’ Zois said.

‘‘You look at areas you need to strengthen, then you give a list with a few options in each position, and then you work through that.

‘‘We’ll just wait and see what happens on June 13 (when the window opens).’’
