Goulburn Valley Suns’ hopes of survival in the National Premier Leagues Victoria were dealt another crushing blow by Ballarat Red Devils on Saturday night.

In the battle of the bottom two clubs, the Suns ca me off second best, with the Red Devils 3-0 victors.

The addition of Simon Colosimo to the Suns’ defence did little to slow the Suns’ alarming rate of goal concessions, while at the other end senior coach Peter Zois was left to rue a number of missed chances.

Colosimo was one of a number of changes to the starting line-up, with Ben Clarke consigned to the bench.

Craig Carley, Zac Paraskevas and Hernan Espindola formed a front three, while Daniel Chaabani returned to midfield.

Clarke was introduced after just 30 minutes for Espindola, and instantly proved a thorn in the Red Devils’ side, but the Suns would concede the first goal on the brink of half-time after Daniel O’Donnell rose highest at a set-piece to nod home Daniel Firth’s cross.

The second was conceded in similar, but somewhat controversial, circumstances when the referee awarded a corner Zois felt was clearly a goal kick.

O’Donnell got on the end of the corner once again, beating Suns keeper Phil Petrovski at the near post.

The third goal came when Petrovski’s goal-kick only found Paul Harvey, who fed Deng Aguek for an easy goal.
