Shepparton News

Kyabram notched up a significant milestone for its fledgling club in North Eastern Soccer League's women's competition when it scored its first ever goal, Amy Wickham netting what the GoAnnas hope will be the first of many more.

Kyabram took the lead against Shepparton to break a run of 70 goals against, but couldn't hold the lead and ultimately lost the contest 3-1.

"To score is one of the landmarks we've been trying to reach all season and we've done it now," Kyabram coach Shaun Riley said.

"While we're not happy with a 3-1 defeat, we are moving forward, the team has improved unbelievably."

Kyabram's worst defeat of the year was a 23-0 loss to Numurkah in round two and Riley is confident the days of big scorelines against his team are over.

"Now that the team understands defensive work I want them to go on becoming a more attack minded team," he said.

"To go from 23-0 earlier in the season to 3-1 is enough improvement for us to aim for a win this season."

In other results, Shepparton South's returning strikers Maddy McGuffie and Angela Foley scored goals as the Southerners defeated Numurkah 2-0, while Shepparton United continued its winning ways with an 11-0 win over Cobram.

United captain Megan Carr scored four goals, Jessie Theobald three and Vanessa Loverso, Sarah Theobald, Imogen Head and Alison Newton one.

United is on top with eight wins, Numurkah slips to third on 21 points and South stays in the finals mix in sixth place on 15.
