SOUTHERNERS FEND OFF UNITED COMEBACK TO HOLD ON AND WIN SECOND STRAIGHT MATCH

Shepparton South survived a late fightback from crosstown rival Shepparton United to land a 3-2 win in FFV Goulburn North East under-14 boys’ action at Central Park on Sunday.

South started the game in bright fashion and did not take long to hold a 2-0 advantage, highlighted by a smart finish from Amani Kitungano.

United clawed itsway back in the second stanza, but the goal to Joshua Bulte helped seal the three points for South.

The success is the second in as many matches for South, which has hit the back of the net eight times in 180 minutes of football.

Kyabram Phoenix downed Tatura 2-1 in a tense contest, while a score was not available from the clash between Cobram Roar and Shepparton SC.

The lone under-17 clash had an early start on Sunday morning with Shepparton United defeating Shepparton South 4-2.

A Nathan Cirillo double helped South to a 2-1 half-time lead, but three unanswered goals to the Blues resulted in a fine fightback.

Mehdi Khademi, Ali Hubar, Sajad Hussani and Suleyman Tonc got on the scoresheet for successful United.

Central Park played host to a classic under15-16 match, with Shepparton United defeating Shepparton South 5-4.

United raced to a 3-0 half-time lead, but South came back from the dead in the second half to score four goals, highlighted by a brace to Lucinda Murdoch, but two goals to the Blues proved the difference.

Cobram Roar downed Shepparton SC 4-1 in the other clash, although no score details were available at time of going to press.

In the mixed under-12 competition

Control: three matches were played, all on Sunday.

Kyabram Phoenix and Tatura played out an exciting 3-3 draw.

For the Phoenix, Adam Pulsoni scored a double and Sheldon Leocata also hit the back of the net, but those strikes were cancelled out by a brace from Nicholas Pena and a sharp effort by Gerald Corbo.

Shepparton

United and Shepparton South played out a 1-1 draw thanks to goals courtesy of Cody Carrafa (United) and Tarkan Simsek (South).

A fine hat-trick from Mohammed Farhood guided Shepparton to a 7-3 away win over Cobram Roar.

Scores were locked 3-all at half-time, but the Reds gained the upper hand in the second stanza.

In addition to three of the best from Farhood, Josh Dimit, Ali Albadry, Mohammad Muqadas and Mitchell Bassett scored goals for an impressive Shepparton outfit.
