Former Sunshine Heights premiership player and club legend Robert Greto (pictured far right) has returned to Ainsworth Reserve as the new senior coach for 2015.
Swapping his boots for a coach’s clipboard, the 31-year-old was officially unveiled last night as the man who will succeed outgoing coach Rick Munn, who stepped down from the role after one year in the top job.
“The club is delighted that Robbie has come back to be the senior coach in 2015,” Club President Vince Sposato said.
“It’s a real coup for the whole playing group to have a player of his calibre lead the way next season.”
A life member of the club, Greto has a wealth of football knowledge, having played 350 games for the Dragons which saw him earn multiple club best and fairest awards as well as become a centurion goal kicker.
Joining him at the helm will be fellow past player and 2008 premiership teammate Matt Scalzo, who will fill the role as senior assistant coach.
“Both Robbie and Matt are quality men who really understand where the club is at in terms of the rebuilding stage, so they will fit the roles nicely.”
While this is Greto’s first role as coach, Sposato says the club is confident he is the right man for the job.
“Robbie knows the club inside out, and while it is his first year coaching, his vast football knowledge and awareness of the club’s culture will lead us in good stead.”
With pre-season training underway, Greto’s first official role will be at the club’s Meet the Coach event, held on Friday December 12.
“All players, supporters and anyone who is keen to be part of the Sunshine Heights Football Club is welcome to attend… the more the merrier,” Sposato said.
“It’s a great chance for the club to come together as a group as we take that next step forward for future success.”
The Meet the Coach event will kick off at 7pm at the Glengala Pub Function Room.
