The Rockets Ladies in a terrific win over Forestville Eagles

The Rockets Women’s Premier League team welcomed back Jo Hill from a successful but exhausting ride to raise money for Beyond Blue and celebrated Kirsty Williams’ 150th game with a terrific win over Forestville Eagles on Saturday night.

The first quarter was neck and neck with lots of ball pressure and exciting three’s scored. The Rocket’s boxed out well and enjoyed having Jo come off the bench to give them a lift. The coaches’ advice to lift their shots and use the back board more paid off with the Rockets leading at the end of the first quarter with a score of 29 to 19 with Carla and Opal leading their team’s scores with 8 pts and 6 points respectively.

The Rockets extended their lead in the second quarter as Borrego-Williams was rested due to her early three fouls. Half time score was 49 to 33 with Jo who started on the bench leading all scorers with 12 Pts. The coach was happy with the team only having 3 turnovers in the first half.

The third quarter was very intense with tight defence from both teams resulting in over 5 team fouls per team. The pressure rose and the third quarter score was 69 to 53, each team scoring 20 despite the Rockets looking like they were at the low scoring end with many missed shots, shooting at only 29 percent.

The fourth quarter was exciting, Shannon McKay scored several smooth three’s with a 15 point quarter to lead the team score with a total of 23 Pts. The bench players all hit the court having a positive impact on the game. Final score 91 to 67, a great win to celebrate Kirsty’s fabulous career at North Adelaide. Congratulations Kirsty, hope to see you here for many years to come.

Next Games - against Norwood at Mars on Saturday 6:30pm and then Sunday at the Titanium Security Arena at 3:45pm against Centrals
