Navarre Grasshoppers will advertise their senior football coaching position after Daniel Parkin has made the decision to stand down.
After taking over the role in 2011 from Ben Martin, Parkin has had plenty of success in the top job.
In his three seasons Parkin has led the team to two premierships from three Grand Final appearances and following his premiership glory this year, he thinks his coaching days are up.
Parkin made it clear he wasn’t going anywhere, but thought there would be better options for the job.
“I’ve loved coaching the Navarre Football Club”, Parkin said.
“I’m extremely thankful for the opportunity but three seasons is enough. It is someone else’s turn”.
Parkin has work commitments throughout next year that could remain for up to 12 months, making his decision a lot easier.
“There will be times I can’t make training and it would be unfair for me to do it and not commit 100 percent”, Parkin said.
“I look forward to taking a step back and concentrating on just playing the game”.
Navarre’s assistant coach Brent Flood would have been another handy option, however he too works out of town and was pretty quick to shut down any thoughts and rumours.
While the past two coaches have been playing coaches, Navarre have no pre-conceived ideas of who they want for the job.
President Andrew Murphy said advertising was the fairest way to go.
“We will be advertising the position in the next week or so”, Murphy said.
“We gave Parko the chance and he has had enough, so someone else gets the chance”.
There has been no interest in the senior coaching position to date, but being the successful club that they have been since entering the MCDFNL, there is bound to be.
“At this stage we will be happy to look at whatever applicants we get”, Murphy said.
Murphy thanked Parkin for his efforts over the past three seasons and was pleased to hear that he would still be staying at the club.
“Despite not coaching both Parkin and Flood will still play next year which is great for the club”, Murphy said.
Navarre will be hoping to secure a senior coach as soon as possible so they can commence their preseason towards the end of this year.
