With Lockdown in Metropolitan Melbourne extended by another two weeks, the Ballarat Football & Netball League have made the decision to delay the finals – with start dates dependent on when Metro Melbourne is released from lockdown.
Five teams are heading towards finals – senior, reserves and Under 19 footballers, and the D Grade and E Grade netballers.
At this stage, the proposed options are:
- Start date 11 September – 4 week finals series, traditional BFNL top six
- Start date 18 September – 3 week finals series, top six (1v2, 3v6, 4v5 in Week 1, then winner 1v2 versus lowest placed elim final winner and loser 1v2 against highest place elim final winner in Week 2, GF in Week 3)
- Start date 25 September – 2 week finals series, top four (1v4, 2v3 in Week 1, with winners to GF). Sides who finished 5th and 6th on the ladder would miss out.
- Start date 2 October – Grand Final only, top two teams
There needs to be a 7 day period from the end of the lockdown to the date of the match based on AFL Victoria guidelines, therefore the earliest possible return is 11 September based on the lockdown ending on 2 September.
All options end with a Grand Final on Saturday 2 October.
