Talented Cairns duo rise to next AFL level
Two Cairns Australian rules footballers have been named in the Queensland Scorpions under-18 squad after starring for the Country Kookaburras at the state championships in Brisbane.
Jye Bohm and Sam Michael, who have both relocated to Brisbane to link with state league club Redlands, made the 28-man squad along with four of their Kookaburras teammates.

Hawks take last flight before finals
THE last time Manunda failed to win the AFL Cairns premiership, John Howard was Prime Minister, fuel prices were under $1.10 a litre and Ben Cousins' off-field antics where still the stuff of rumour.

Last-gasp Hawks swoop on Bulldogs
IF Manunda wins its third AFL Cairns premiership in a row this season, the team might look back on Saturday's round-16 victory against the Centrals Trinity Beach Bulldogs at Crathern Park as the catalyst.

Reborn Hawks hunt four

Willie wins honour in a thriller
A BEST-on-ground performance in the final round of the season lifted Manunda Hawks' Willy Alick to victory in the AFL Cairns best and fairest award, the Crathern Medal, last night.
It was the closest count in years with the entire crowd of the Allen Aylett Room in Cazalys glued to the screen as the votes for the final round were read out.

Hawks fligh high in epic Under 18 thriller
MANUNDA Hawks edged out Centrals by just seven points to win a pulsating, pressure-filled under-18 AFL Cairns Grand Final at Cazalys on Wednesday night.
Hawks coach Richard Martin said if the game had carried on another four minutes, there would have been 36 bodies laid out on the pitch, such was the desperation and determination of both teams.
That was just an absolute cracking game of football and I really do not know where you would ever see a better of game of junior football than that," Martin said of the 9.9 (63) to 8.8 (56) triumph by Hawks. "It was two really good sides prepared to do anything to win, filled with desperation and intensity.

Hawks Repeat Success
MANUNDA Hawks staved off an electrifying Cairns Saints comeback to claim a fiercely contested Grand Final and back-to-back AFL Cairns premierships on Saturday.
The Hawks went behind briefly in the last quarter for the first time since midway through the opening term but they over-ran Saints in the final 20 minutes.
Six goals to Gabby Weetra and five from last year's Grand Final hero Kevin Rundle saw the Hawks claim victory 18.7 (115) to 13.16 (94).
