Reserves Preliminary Final v West Preston Lakeside
Sun 16th September- In stark contrast to the perfect conditions played in last week, we turned up to Preston City Oval to wind gusts reminiscent of finals played at Epping. The main difference being at Preston there is "cover" from the wind for the spectator making the viewing experience better than the best day at Epping's Arctic Park.

Reserves First Semi Final
Sat 8th Sept- In what could only be called a perfect day for football, bright sunshine and not overly hot with hardly a breath of wind, the NFL headed out to Preston City Oval for the 2007 finals series. What a pleasant change it was from the wind swept plains of Epping.

Round 18 vs Heidelberg
Sat 1st Sept- Last round of the home and away season, last chance for the senior team to make the finals and the chance for the reserve team to secure the double chance. The sun was shining and there was hardly a breath of wind in what could only be described as the perfect day for football. The scenario was plain, win and keep the margin within 18 points of Northcote Parks winning margin over Greensborough and we play finals. The question would be if Greensborough could prevent a massacre.

Round 17 vs Bundoora
Sat 25th August- The travels continued this week as we ventured down Grimshaw St to meet Bundoora in what was potentially going to be the defining game of the year. Bundoora wanted to win to secure the double chance, while for ourselves it was a case of win and the last finals spot would be stitched up. What transpired is very hard to put into words that dont begin in "f".

Round 16 vs North Heidleberg
Sat August 18th - With expectation of a big day for Montmorency Football Club we headed out to Shelley St to play North Heidelberg with all three teams having something to play for. The 19's wanted to finish above North on the ladder after both teams have had a poor year, the Reserves with a win would have a shot at the double chance while a loss would see them in danger of dropping out all together and would have given North a sniff at fourth spot, while the Senior team needs one more win to secure fourth.

Editors Story - Anatomy of a Premiership
For long enough I have heard the stories from the people that were around at the time of the last Montmorency Senior Premiership of what it takes to win a flag. Often with a rose coloured tinge to the stories I am told of how we grabbed the locals off the street and coerced them into playing for Montmorency and how people from other clubs were beating down the doors to come and play for the Valley Magpies. These same people will then look at the current squad and tell me we waste money trying to get imports and that we don't do enough to get local kids playing and don't pour enough into developing the junior teams because that is where the premierships in the past have come from. Now while there is always going to be a grain of truth to any story, it is probably time now to set the record straight.

Round 15 vs Greensborough
Sunday August 12th- For the second week in a row Monty has come up against an "old" enemy. This week it was Greensborough, and like Eltham last week, Greensborough had a mathematical chance of making the finals if it defeated Monty. Instead Monty had the great pleasure of elimanating Greensborough from the finals race of 2007, a small revenge for the loss earlier in the season.

ROUND 14 vs ELTHAM
Sat 4th August- In a game that would see the loser effectively eliminated from the finals for 2007, there was much at stake in what was expected to be a tight tussle. With Eltham having won the last 2 meetings between the clubs, the Monty faithful were desperate to get back on the winning track against Eltham and regain the Hines Shield that has been missing for 12 months now.

Round 13 v Epping
Sat July 28 - The weather report told me there would be clearing showers for todays game, not a prospect to excite me, as when the showers come the crowd at Monty normally clears out. Add to that the game was against a stuggling Epping outfit and the prospects for a big crowd were diminishing.

Round 12 v Diamond Creek
Sat July 21- I was excited this morning, Harry Potter was being released and the feeling today was going to be a magical one certainly had me smiling. By the time the football was over, the smile was gone and the only thing magical was how quickly I wanted to dissappear into a crack in the ground

Round 11 v Northcote Park
Sat July 14th- In France it was Bastille Day, for Northcote Park it must have felt like they were emulating the deeds of storming the fortress that was the French Bastille prison in 1789 as it seems almost a lifetime ago that Northcote Park has won at Montmorency. In fact the last time they beat Montmorency at Para Rd was ironically in the same year North Heidelberg won at Para Rd, 2001. However, unlike 1789 , Northcote Park could not break the defence of Para Rd and the revolution has been halted for another year.

Round 10 v West Preston
Sat July 7- A disasterous day for the Montmorency Football Club as the chance to consolidate a position in the four was lost in terrible weather conditions to West Peston who just seemed to want to ball more than our players.

Round 9 vs Heidelberg
Sat 30th June- All week I was worried about the weather, the thought of a home game being washed out did not excite me in the slightest. However on arrival at the ground, the sun was shining and the sky was clear and things were looking good. Was it an omen? Were things going to go right today and would we win? As it turned out I read the omen wrong, it was telling me to go home and get my own washing done before the rain came.

Round 8 vs Bundoora
Sat 23rd June - Arriving at the ground this morning I couldn't help but feel worried that the day would not be going Monty's way. Here I was turning up to a home game in the rain, the last thing I want to see when you need a big crowd to pay the bills. Fortunately the rain was gone before the bounce of a ball and by the senior game the day was a cool still perfect day for football.

Round 7 vs North Heidelberg
Sat June 16- The writing was on the wall before the game today. Here we are, round 7 with a record of 3 wins and three losses with the three inform teams above us yet to be played. North Heidelberg were unbackable favorites as the prospect of Monty losing 3 games in a row loomed large. Just to make matters worse for Mont, Brent Gutterson was a withdrawl and the atmosphere had a forboding feel for the Monty side.

Round 6 vs Greensborough
Sun June 10th- The second loss in a row. Not only the second loss of a game of football but the second game in a row our pride has been spanked to an old enemy. First Eltham, now this week Greensborough, where is this going to end?

Round 5 vs Eltham
Sat June 2nd- The reddness from my face has finally dissipated and life is returning to normal, all be it with disbelief that the Montmorency Football Club has been defeated by Eltham. Kudos to Eltham for the victory, but it was a game that once again showed that no matter how well or how bad you play, if you fail to put scoreboard pressure on your opponents then inevitably the game can be taken away, and that is precisely what Eltham did to us.

Round 4 vs Epping
Sat May 26- This week we traveled out to Epping to play in the typical windy conditions we have come to expect over the years. The ground was in magnificent condition, the grass was green and lush while the ground itself was soft. What is hard to believe is that Epping are not allowed to train on this beautiful ground.

Round 3 vs Diamond Creek
Sat 19 May- Diamond creek ventured to the Magpie nest today in the hope of capatalising on last years shock win at Diamond Creek to beat the Monty Machine on their turf. Fortunately for the Magpie faithful this didnt happen and Monty came away with the points.

Round 2 vs Northcote Park
Sat 12 May- At last a win on the board. I say that in disbelief that after 2 rounds and 6 games of football through the grades the Montmorency Football Club has only one win. Let it be the catalyst for things to come for the season.
