The Emily Ehrenreich Perpetual Trophy

The Emily Ehrenreich Perpetual Trophy

for the “ most improved “ junior girl

             at Merewether Junior Soccer Club.

This trophy has been presented by Merewether J.S.C. since 2002 to the most improved junior girl playing each year. Originally it was for the under 14 years age group, but with the introduction of an under 12 years age group in 2005, it is now awarded to a girl in that age group.

Emily Ehrenreich , an 11 year old girl from Maryland , USA , loved her soccer , played the clarinet , sang in the school choir and enjoyed acting in school plays. On a family skiing holiday to Mohawk Mountain , Connecticut for Christmas 2001 , Emily a novice skier, got out of control on an expert trail and collided with a snow making machine , which unfortunately brought her short life to an end.

Emily’s aunt who resided in Newcastle , normally sent Emily a birthday gift . In 2002 she made enquiries about which soccer club promoted girls soccer and as a result presented our club with a trophy in memory of her niece “ Emily “ .

Emily attended Burleigh Manor Middle School , Ellicott City , Maryland. In honour of Emily and Byrd Vichainaraphong , a fellow student , who died as a result of an accidental gunshot wound , the 8th Grade Student Council set up a “ Student Memorial Scholarship “, which to this day assists students at the school who are in need financially .

The recipient of the perpetual trophy each year , also receives a gift in recognition of their achievement from the committee of M.J.S.C.
