Team Goals

 

Shooting: layups (R/L), squaring up, shooting off dribble, shooting off catch, free throws, jump shot

Rebounding: box out, attacking the ball

Defence: man to man full and half court

Footwork: jumpstop, stride stop, pivoting (R/L), pace change, direction change

Passing: chest, bounce, baseball, overhead, on the move, feeding post (1/2 hands)

Dribbling: speed crossover (R/L), ball protection (R/L), control, retreat, behind the back, through the legs, hesitation

 

Training schedule (eg) for jnr basketballers

 

10 mins – Warm up

10 mins – shooting: layups (R/L) with and without defence, jump shots from elbows and outside the key (horizontal to basket), free throws, shooting off catch.

10 mins – dribbling: ball protection, behind the back

10 mins – defence: man to man (facing the player; watch hips to anticipate movement, stay on toes), where to start half court man to man, 3 point arc man to man.

10 mins – passing: feeding post (2 hands), bounce pass, overhead (baseline only).

10 mins – mini game: practise defence and ball handling, keep an eye on feeding post shooting techniques.
