Gisborne 12.12-84 def. by South Bendigo 17.20-122
The Gisborne Senior team played their opening game of the season against South Bendigo at Gardiner Reserve.
It was a contrasting game with very even first and third quarters. The Bulldogs failed to capitalise on the good work of Tom Waters in the ruck in the second quarter, when South kicked a match defining eight goals to four.
Hamish Govan provided excellent attack on the ball in the back line all day and Ollie Messaoudi and Shaun Comerford were both hard at it in the midfield.
Pat Fitzgerald was a busy player throughout his first game back with the Bulldogs. He kicked two goals. Dan Weaver was also a very creative player on the wing. Darren Farrugia made the most of his opportunities with five goals.
South extended their lead by a further sixteen points in the final quater running out victors by 38 points.

Football – Under 18s Report
Gisborne 24.14- 158 def. South Bendigo 2.7-19
Gisborne started slowly but after a lack lustre first quater the midfield kicked thanks to Govan, James, Scales, Dorocic, Williams & Goodyear. Pat McKenna was again strong up forward and this week was ably assisted by Dyson Bond who kicked 6 in a stellar effort. James O'Hare showed great run on the wing along with Josh Crook. As the day went on the instructions from Nico and Woody were to keep rolling on and he young bulldogs did not let their coaches down. JJ and Matty Goodyear showed what TAC Cup intensity is all about with JJ working well whilst running off half back with blistering pace and Goodyear damaging through the centre repeatedly booting the ball forward to the waiting forward talls.
All in all it was a solid effort and the boys are now looking forward to going into the next couple of weeks against the competition top teams to test just how much they have improved from last seasons form.
