Reserves.
Gisborne 11.20 – 86 def Kyneton 0.1 – 01.
Gisborne welcomed back 2012 B&F winner Aaron Storie as they took on Kyneton at Gardiner Reserve last Saturday.
Fielding possibly their strongest side this season, the Dogs got off to a flyer in the first term kicking 4.4 to Kynetons 1 solitary point. The Gisborne midfield were dominating the stoppages winning numerous clearances and quick ball movement into Gisborne’s forward 50 saw the Tigers back men struggling to contain the aggressive Dogs forwards. Jarryd Vernon and Tim Hynson were lively for the Dogs and Michael Steinbach was strong in the clinches.
The second term saw much of the same with the Dogs winning across every line. The midfield were well on top, the backs were letting absolutely nothing through and a very open forward line saw Kyneton struggling to cope with the quantity of ball coming in. By the end of the quarter the Dogs had added a further 5 goals while Kyneton had not added to their quarter time score. Jarrod Arnold was having a fine game and will no doubt be pushing for senior selection come the next round.
The Kyneton coaching staff must have given their players a bit of a rev up over the break. The Tigers were a far more determined and accountable outfit and played a tighter brand of football in the third quarter which saw the goals dry up for the Dogs. Having said that, had the Dogs been more accurate it could have been a different story as they kicked 1.7 for the quarter. Kyneton, on the other hand were still struggling to get past the Gisborne defence and again failed to score in a quarter that saw Tom Cecil and Heath Levis stop everything that came their way.
During the last quarter, the conditions had deteriorated and the ball was very heavy. The Dogs were still dominating however were finding it difficult to kick majors and in similar circumstances to the third quarter, they posted 1.6 and again Kyneton failed to score. The final score line showed a resounding 85 point victory to Gisborne with the honors for best player going to former club captain and coach, Luke Saunders who certainly looks to have put his health problems behind him and all going well could be a very handy inclusion into the ones as we move into the business end of the season.

Gisborne 26.11- 167 Def Kyneton 2:4 - 16
The Gisborne boys were upbeat about facing Kyneton for the third time this year, this time on the hallowed turf of the “Graveyard” and after a couple of days of driving rain. The instructions from Nico and Woody were clear – to run and play on when they got the chance or hold it up and play tempo football should the Kyneton boys get their tails up at any stage.
The young Dogs were “on” from the word go. The two “Libbas” Rodgers and Logan, Shannon Greetham and young Tom Wood were giving the forwards first use and Josh Govan, Ethan Minns and Brody Lamplugh were not letting anyone down and they were able to convert at will. The young dogs posted an 8 goal first term and followed this with a 6 goal second term to go into the long break with a handy 13 goal lead.
The second half was more of the same with Isaac Trickey moving the ball easily away from the backline and when in the centre he was able to take advantage of the great ruck work displayed by Hayden Doritich and Bryson Scales and won numerous centre clearances. The Dogs were ruthless with their pressure on Kyneton and Govan, Minns and Lamplugh along with Trent Crosbie, Josh Crook and co, continued to post major after major. The end result was a convincing 151 point win that sees the Gisborne boys go into the split round at 9 and 1 the team will be strengthened further when Fraser, Andrews and Trotta make their way back after being rested.
Goal Kickers: Govan 7, Lamplugh 4, Doricic 3, Minns 3, Bond 3, Crosbie 2, Greetham, Challis, Parfray, Crook

Netball
Last Saturday was the start of the second half of the season with Gisborne taking on Kyneton at home and the Gisborne girls ended up coming away with three close wins out of the four games played.
U/17.
First up was the U17 Gisborne girls and in the first half they made some silly mistakes. This may have been due to the cold and it took the girls awhile to get warmed up but by half time they had established a strong lead of 21 to Kyneton 14. In the third quarter the girls played strong netball where they chased everything down and by quarters end the score line showed Gisborne leading 32 to Kyneton 20. They say you save the best for last and this was true on Saturday with the Gisborne team playing a great last quarter. The defenders worked hard stopping virtually everything that came their way and limiting Kyneton to only 4 goals for the quarter. The mid court aided the defenders by bringing the ball down court and with good passes into the goalers, who then finished off by shooting accurately. The final score was a convincing 49 to 24 win to Gisborne.

Next came B. Res where the new on and off rule was going to be implemented. Both Gisborne and Kyneton got together with the umpires before the game and it was explained to both teams how the rule was going to work. Whether it was a 100% accurate or not was debatable however it worked ok for both teams on the day. The Gisborne girls worked hard in the first half to give themselves a 7 goal lead at half time with the scores being Gisborne 26 to Kyneton 19. In the third quarter Kyneton came out with all guns blazing and outscored the Gisborne girls by 6 goals and subsequently were only behind by one solitary point at three quarter time. The score board showed Gisborne 33 to Kyneton 32 and it was certainly shaping up to be a tough last term. After a rev up from their coach, the girls snapped out of sleep mode and into netball mode and were able to score the first 2 goals of the quarter to give themselves a little bit of breathing space. They continued to work hard and managed to maintain their lead and eventually run out winners 45 to Kyneton 40.
B. Grade.
With Kyneton in the five and Gisborne outside of the five, the girls needed this win to keep their final hopes alive and they didn’t let themselves down. From the very first, both teams were hard at the ball with Gisborne going into the main break leading by 2 goals and the scoreboard showing Gisborne 24 to Kyneton 22. In the third quarter Gisborne made a few positional changes which seemed to work. The Gisborne girls went about their job defending tightly, shooting accurately and with the centre girls attacking and defending any loose balls they went to the break with a six goal lead and a score line of Gisborne 37 to Kyneton 31. The girls kept to this game plan in the last quarter to finish off winners with a final score of Gisborne 47 to Kyneton 41.
A.Res.
This was a game not to be taken lightly by Gisborne as both teams were fighting for third position on the ladder.
The first half of the game was fairly even with both teams playing strong netball. The Gisborne team managed to jump on a couple of Kyneton mistakes and turn the ball over to their advantage and thus give themselves a slight lead by half time of Gisborne 19 to Kyneton17. It is unsure what happened to Gisborne in the third term but Kyneton to their credit came out firing and chased everything that came their way. They put enormous pressure on the Gisborne who turned the ball over to many times and Gisborne fell into the Kyneton style of game and by the end of the quarter Kyneton led 27 to Gisborne 24. In the last quarter the Gisborne girls knew that they would have to pull something out of the hat if they were going to win. Kyneton got the jump and extended the lead out to six in the first five minutes of the game. Not to be out done the Gisborne dug deep and worked their backsides off to try and bridge the deficit however the final siren just beat the girls who were on a roll and they came up just short with the final score showing Gisborne 37 to Kyneton 39 in what was a very entertaining game to watch.
