GFNC Club Notes - Round 11.
It was a winning day at the office for all teams last week up at Castlemaine with the biggest result for the day being the first win for the B Reserve girls which was great news.
In the football the U18's got proceedings underway with a strong win. The key to the boys is keeping up the talk and communication throughout the game as this keeps our intensity levels up at where they need to be. Castlemaine's only positive period came when we dropped off with our voices so it is something that we need to focus on every week. Nick Doolan is having a terrific year and was named best again and he was well supported by Trent Crosbie, Liam Rodgers, Matt Wilson, Lachie Curran and Jye Tebble.
After a bit off a drought, the Reserves got back on the winners list with a big win. With the senior coach Rod Sharp pulling on the boots and directing traffic, the boys played a really strong brand of hard , diciplined footy which kept the scoreboard regularly ticking over. The only lowlight of the game was the injury in the first minute to Matty Fitzgerald but fingers crossed it is not to bad and we see him out on the park soon. Josh Bain was best and once his fitness is up to speed he should be pushing for senior selection. The same for Aaron Storie who managed 5 goals and is playing really well at present. Grant Farrugia also snagged 5 and was in the best players as wereLachie O'Gorman, Dylan McFarlane and Liam Logan.
After a big rev up from their coach, it was a monty that Castlemaine were going to come out all fired up so the boys in the Seniors were ready for the challenge. The boys stood up really well and quickly had the game being played on our terms and from there it was pretty much one way traffic. What was particularly pleasing was the fact that we were able to keep Castlemaine goalless in the second half and the defenders have to be congratulated on their efforts. Tom May's workrate was outstanding and he was named best, Tom Waters was terrific where he controlled the ruck and gave our mids first use, Tim Walsh continued his brilliant form and the same can be said for Isaac Trickey who was excellent again. Cam Medica was rock solid down back and Jarrad Lynch was really good kicking 5 and having a great game.
The result of the senior game was a gut wrenching outcome with Flat kicking a point after the siren to win by that one solitary point. To their credit Flat hung in all day but that was in part due to our inability to hit the scoreboard at crucial times and put them away. Our endevour and application could not be questioned but we did not get the necessary reward for effort due again to innacurate kicking and just like in the Reserves game, it was one that got away. Josh Govan was given a role for the day and executed the task perfectly to be our best player while Pat McKenna, Cam Medica, Tom May, Tim Walsh and Dan weaver rounded out the best.
In the netball, it was five from five and the great news was that the B Reserve girls got their first win for the season winning 61 to Castlemaine's 16. Erin Peavey was best but congratulations to all the girls as it has been a tough season for them thus far and a win was well desrved. In the A Grade the girls were far to strong winning 61 to 29 with Tiana Newman our best player. The A Reserve game was a little more even however the girls got the win 59 to 47 and Kym Grant was our best player. In B Grade, Amy Clay was excellent and she was instrumental in the girls 51 to Castlemaine's 39 victory and finally the 17/U completely dominated their match with a 61 to 16 outcome and Rylee Connell was best.
This week it is Maryborough at home so let's use our home ground/court advantage to its fullest and get some more big results for the club - "Go Dogs".
