GRAND FINAL WEEK
It is Grand Final time and Gisborne Football Netball Club would like to congratulate the A.Grade Netball, U17 Netball and U18 football teams on making the Grand Final in their respective grades.
The A.Grade girls have had a magnificent season finishing on top of the ladder with only one defeat for the season. In their first final they got the job done and now take on Kangaroo Flat in the Grand Final. They have had the edge over Flat this year but know they must be right at the top of their game as Flat are a very good side; a fact which was highlighted by their come from behind win in last weeks’ preliminary final. It promises to be a massive match as the girls aim to become Gisbornes’ first A.Grade winner in the clubs’ 13 years in the BFNL. Also, a big congratulations to Tiana Newman and Madeline Stewart. Tiana was crowned the BFNL best and fairest winner this week and this is the second time she has won this coveted medal. Madeline was also voted the BNFL Rising Star for 2013, a fantastic effort, and the club would like to congratulate both girls on their achievements. Well done Tiana and Madeline.
The U17 girls will also take on Kangaroo Flat in their Grand Final. They had a tremendous victory against South Bendigo last week to set up the clash against Flat and the victory has primed the girls for a big game this week. Flat have defeated Gisborne in their two encounters this year, albeit by narrow margins, however the girls have some serious momentum up and going at present, which gives them great confidence going into the game. A special mention must also go out to Sammi Cooke who was runner up in the BFNL U17 best and fairest which was a terrific achievement – Well done Sammi.
On the football front, the Gisborne U18 boys have had a wonderful year after finishing second on the ladder and then getting the job done in both finals to book a berth in the “Big One”. They take on perennial Grand Finalists Sandhurst and it promises to be an enthralling affair. Sandhurst boast the BFNL Best and Fairest winner along with the leagues’ leading goal-kicker this year however the Dogs great strength is their evenness across all lines and they go into the game having defeated Sandhurst in all three outing this year, the last two times at QEO where the young pups love to play football.
To all three teams, the Gisborne Football Netball Club wish you all the best on your magnificent seasons thus far and we know that you will do yourselves and the club proud this week.
GO DOGS !!!
