For the first time ever the Cats successfully fielded three Senior Men's teams in the AFL Sydney competition. The addition of a third team is a great reflection on the growth of the club and is reward for the hard efforts the club has made in creating and maintaining a positive, inclusive and welcoming club culture and in promoting AFL in the Macarthur region.
The Camden Cats Division 4 side started proceedings at a rain soaked affair at Fairfax Reserve on Friday night. The game had a late venue change after Wollondilly had their ground closed. Camden battled hard but unfortunately fell short in the end to a well drilled Wollondilly side. The Wollondilly team showed why they will be the team to beat in Division 4 this season. Regardless of the first up loss, a full strength Camden Division 4 side is going to chalk up plenty of wins for season 2015.
The Camden Division 5 side continued the weekend of football in another wet affair over at Greygums Oval against Penrith. Camden definitely put up a solid fight, which unfortunately wasn't recognised on the scoreboard. Penrith, just like Wollondilly were grand finalists last year and are a well drilled side. A special mention goes out to the 6-8 new first time AFL players that took the field for Camden; great stuff lads.
Camden’s first grade side in Division 2 closed out the weekend with a cracking game against local rivals Moorebank. The biggest lead of the game was no more than two straight kicks and both sides fought hard all day for the leather. A dominant third term helped the Cats run out the last quarter for their first win of 2015 - by a margin of 7 points.
Blake Pearce played a great game against his old team mates from Rosedale, whilst the Camden leadership group stood tall all day, with Josiah Ayling and Jay Wheels providing plenty of run in the last quarter. Camden Vice-Captain James Broadbent was able to slot the match winning goal late in the last term, delivering a great win for the boys.
Now the Cats are off to play Manly - where the club hopes the Cats song will make a second piece of history – by being sung from the sheds at Weldon for the first time ever.
