The Camden Cat’s Division 5 side celebrated its first win of the season, beating Norwest at Benson Lane. Reigning Apted medallist Ben Laid showing he still knows where the big sticks are, leading the way for the visitors with a 6-goal haul for Camden. Jonathan Cotsios was a solid contributor for the Cats applying relentless pressure through the match while Callum Robinson, Tim McDonald and Liam Jesson also played well. It was a massive turnaround for a Division 5 side that was suffered a heavy loss in round one. Hard work on the training track really paid dividends on the ground, with the improvement in skills obvious in the way Camden went about their play – leading at every change.
The Camden Cat’s Division 2 and 4 sides were on the road, making the trip over to the Northern Beaches to play Manly on Saturday. Both games were played in extremely hot and humid conditions.
The Division 4 game started at a cracking pace with both teams demonstrating that they were ready for a physical clash. Camden was able to match Manly for intensity and skills and had its fair share of possession during the first half. Unfortunately Camden was unable to convert that possession on the scoreboard with a number of easy set shots and missed scoring opportunities that would prove costly. That trend continued into the second half where Manly was able to get on top. The Cats midfield and backline were the shining lights for the visiting team with Jaime Page, Dan McKay, and Tommy Glynn best afield.
The Camden Cat’s Division 2 side faced the Manly side that ended its 2014 finals campaign. The Cats were keen to even the ledger going into the game, after a first round win against Moorebank. Camden started the game well and was able to match Manly around the ground during all four quarters, but the Cats struggled to get the ball deep into their attack to apply scoreboard pressure. Camden’s backline was ably led by Mark Maher, first game new recruit Brenton Sommerville and Josh Leys, whilst midfielder Mark Halteh was a strong physical presence in the centre and around the ground all day. In the end a comfortable win to Manly.
This coming weekend is the first time 3 Camden Cats senior sides will be playing at home “The Cattery”, Fairfax Reserve on the same day. This is an exciting milestone for the club.
