The Camden Cats Division 4 side notched up its first win for the 2015 BLK AFL Sydney season with a comfortable 74 point win over Randwick at Fairfax Reserve. The Cats led at every change kicking its largest score for the season. New recruit Matthew Morey was the focal point for the Cats slotting 5 goals in his first hit out for the club. Ben Reid, Aaron Beves and Nick Laws were resolute all day for the Cats providing great run from defense, whilst Jared Mullaney continued his great recent form in the midfield. The Div 4 side will look to make it back-to-back wins next week against Holroyd-Parramatta.
The Division 2 team was out to prove it is a side to be reckoned with in season 2015, posting an 86-point demolition of Randwick. The Cats midfield was back to its best, led by Vice-Captain Joel Wheeler and Sam Young. Josiah Ayling showed signs that he is finding his 2013 form again after an injury plagued 2014 season. He kicked 5 goals for the winners, well supported by new recruits Blake Pearce (3 goals) and Matthew Withers (2 goals). The win was the best of the year for Camden, whose pressure and toughness was relentless throughout the game; making coach Chris Hughes very happy. It was a real team effort from the Cats, with solid contributions from all players across the park.
Camden’s Division 5 side was attempting to string together back-to-back wins at home against Balmain. The Cats started strongly with a 4 goal first quarter, scoring off the back of some strong centre clearance work from Matthew Wynne and Dan McKay. The game got tighter in the second and third quarters when the heavens opened up, making the ball and playing surface slippery and scoring tough. The Cats posted the first goal of the last quarter, to lead by 3 goals with 10 minutes to play, but Balmain rallied late to score the last 4 goals of the game and a hard fought 7-point victory.
Next round all three Camden senior sides are in action at the Cats home ground, “The Cattery” Harrington Park. Division 4 and 5 play Holroyd-Parramatta, whilst in the main game the Cats Division 2 side takes on arch-rival Manly for the second time this season.
