Camden’s first grade side cemented its place in second position with a comfortable 42-point win over Western Suburbs at Henson Park.
The Cats led at every change in the twilight affair, with key contributions from the Cats backline setting up the win. 2014 Camden best and fairest winner Nick Hills was outstanding in the back half, with his run and carry football providing great supply to the Cats half forward line. He was well supported by Mr Consistency, Mark Maher and the Sommerville brothers; Brenton and Kyle whose work around the stoppages in the Magpies forward 50 was a highlight.
A six goal to two second quarter saw Camden take a 31-point advantage into the main break, with the Cats accuracy in front of goal very telling, kicking 10 goals straight to half time. The Cats continued their dominance in the second half with goal sneak Luke Bodeker having his best game for the Cats slotting 5 goals for the winners. Cats midfielder Sam Young provided one of the highlights of the game slotting a 50-metre boundary line goal in the second quarter. In the end, Camden had a comfortable 7 goal win, making it three victories in a row.
Camden’s Division 4 side made it three wins on the trot with a hard earned 10-point win against Southern Power. Midfielder Jared Mullaney was a dominant force in the middle and around the ground, not afraid to put his body on the line and do the hard things for the home team. Adam Noyce had another great game roaming the Cats half forward line with his marking and accurate long kicking keeping the scoreboard ticking over. The Cats backline was well serviced by full back Ben Reid and half back Nick Laws, whilst young gun Jamie Brown had his best game for the Cats senior side. Next week, the Cats are on the road again, playing Macquarie University.
Camden’s Division 5 side went into its game against UTS Bats full of confidence after a good team win the week before against Holroyd Parramatta. The undermanned Cats side struggled all day against a well-drilled UTS side, but the effort and spirit from the young Cats side never waned all day. John “Irish” Murtagh made his return to the Cats side after a long lay-off, picking up where he left off in last year’s finals series with a best-on-ground performance. He was well supported by Dave Elliot, James “Snowy” Surridge and Callum Robinson. In the end, UTS were victors by 93 points.
“The Cattery” will host the Div 2 game of the week next Saturday that sees second placed Camden take on ladder leader Blacktown. Should be a cracker!
