The Camden Cats Division 2 side has won a tough and tight contest against Blacktown Magic by 10-points. The win sees Camden maintain its position at the top of the BLK AFL Sydney Division 2 ladder and extend its winning streak to 10 games.
With both teams expected to go deep into September action, the Cats knew they were in for a tough day at the office. The contest was tough, physical and tight all day, with neither side able to dominate the other on the scoreboard. Only 7 points separated the two teams at half time. In the second half, Blacktown was able to match Camden for skill and speed, with the Cats backline working overtime to repel the barrage of Blacktown inside 50s. Camden’s backs were the difference between the two sides with Mitch Hogan, Chris Murray, Matt Smith and James Bottin-Noonan leading the way for the Cats. Stand-in Captain was again one of Camden’s best, his black eye at the end of the game a testament to the hard brand of football played between the two sides. Up forward Shane Doherty and Blake Pearce had 3 goals apiece, with Matt Lecek and Matt Withers the other Camden goal scorers. Next weekend Camden takes on Moorebank for the third time this season at home.
Earlier in the day, Camden’s Division 4 side had a comfortable 45-point win against Blacktown to sure up its ladder position in the top five. Camden started the game well keeping the home side goalless in the first quarter, whilst at the same time keeping the scorers busy with 5 goals of their own. That advantage was whittled away during the second quarter with Blacktown clawing its way back into the game with a 6-goal second term. In the second half, the Cats found their groove again, led by mid-season recruit Tim Georgiou who was again a solid contributor and midfielder Jamie Page who was back to his best in the middle and around the ground. However, it was Camden’s forward line that shone the brightest, with Matt Morey (4 goals) and Adam Noyce (3 goals) making the most of every opportunity that came their way. Their potency in front of goal was the difference between the two sides with the Cats 9-goal to 3-goal second half sealing their victory. Next week the Cats Division 4 side takes on Randwick City at Fairfax Reserve.
