In October 2015,as the Blues and Goulburn were the Stand out teams in the Regional Grade in 2015, Afl Canberra invited both clubs to move up a grade into Division three.
Chris Drum was reappointed as playing coach with Stephen Chant assistant coach.
The Blues obviously found the step up in grade a challenge, but the players loved it.
AFL Canberra Division three commenced with 10 teams but was reduced to 9 teams with UC Magpies pulling out mid-May.The Magpies withdrawal also saw the Blues lose a home match .The Blues finshed in seventh spot with 4 wins and 10 losses.Our best win of the season was against second placed Woden Blues at Football Park.The Coota Blues dug deep in the final quarter winning the match by 7 points after being down bu 4 goals at the last change,Woden came from 4th spot to win the flag in 2016.
Liam Frilay who had done a stack of travelling over the years to play for the club,celebrated his 100th natch for the Blues against Goulburn in June.Sam Herzich a 21 year old on baller from Young was the best & fairest winner,Sam become the third player from Young to win the Blues B&F following on from Ben Forster in 2004 and Jarrod Ruthjen in 2005.
On the June Long weekend ,Chris Drum,Joel Pearson & Stephen Chant represented AFL Canberra Division 3 against South Coast at Merrimbula .South Coast where most of the players hail from Wollongong ran out easy winners.
The Presentation night was held at the Ex-Services Club attended by 75 members and Guests
The Blues Continued with the Wall of Fame with 2 more inductees.
Fifth inductee: Warren Meale became the Blues first playerto win the Best & Fairest 3 times.1969,1970 & 1974.Warren first win was as a 17 year old and 47 years later is still our youngest winnerof this award.Warren was a member of the Blues first 2 premierships in 1973 & 1974.At the Blues 50th Anniversary Dinner,warren was named in the Blues Team of the half century.
Sixth Inductee: Rod Bradley better known as Pickles,the popular clubman has been involved with the Blues for 50 Years. Debuting in 1967 his career spanned 3 decades before retiring in 1983.During his time he played in the Blues first 4 premierships in 1973,1974,1977 & 1980.Pickles went onto play a then club record of 271 matches.Off the field Pickles has been involved in working bees and for the last decade Pickles has been the regular goal umpire for home matches
