Season 2010 was full of many highs and few lows, but all up it was an enjoyable and fairly successful year. The regular season had us finish with 11 wins, 7 losses and 1 draw.
I would like to thank everyone involved that helped get our group out onto the paddock each week. Special thanks to Doug Murray, Ecky and Tim Johnson for all the behind the scenes work they did to help us through.
A special thank you must go to Brad Cross for his involvement with me in the box on Saturday and throughout the week with the selection. Also our runners during the season, Kade Munro and Kev Dunne, also Kev helped on match day for the second half of the year. Thanks guys.
Well the season didn’t start the way we wanted with a loss in round one but we turned Weyba Road into a fortress and won the next 3 home games comfortably. That seemed to be the trend for the year as we won all 9 home games and proceeded to lose all but 2 away games.
After losing to Springwood by 2 points in Round 12 and the Surfers Paradise by 5 points in round 13 it left us with 5 rounds to go and a predicament of if we lost that would end our season. To the boys credit we played some great footy and accounted for the top sides Sandgate, Coolangatta and Maroochy/North Shore in that 5 week spell. This brings me to our best performance for 2010. In the last round against Maroochy/North Shore, we needed to win and hoped Palm Beach could topple Coolangatta. On that day we had 22 guys playing great footy and we smashed our rivals by 76 points, and Palmy beat Coolangatta, which meant we scraped into 5th spot and finals footy.
Amazingly we finish with 11 ½ wins and in most leagues in Australia that would have most sides in the top 3 but unfortunately we finished 5th. We went into the finals in great form having won 5 on the trot and full of confidence. We faced Springwood at Palm Beach. After a sluggish start we worked our way back in, at one stage we were 30 points down, half way through the final term we got within 9 points only to run out of steam, losing by 35 points. I was very proud of the group, we’d had a huge 6 weeks and we never gave up in that final and I hope it’s one of those things we keep in the memory bank for next year.
As far as the playing group goes, there were plenty of positives, with a few players getting senior call ups. There was lots of improvement across the board. We had a lot of new faces Patrick Paterson, Josh Reichman, Brent Dornauf, Billy Daugalis, Michael King, Brendan Wulf, Steve Simpson, Chris Perry and the return of Kade Munro from his knee injury. If we can keep the core group that have been at the club for a few years and the new faces from 2010 it looks good for 2011.
On a personal note I enjoyed the season and have made some great friendships during the season. It’s a huge effort for our “12 o’clockers” to get to the away games especially the Gold Coast game as we had to leave by 7.30am on game day. So a big thanks to all that pulled on a Noosa jumper and I am sure if we can have that same commitment next year we can take another step forward. I would also like to thank the Club and committee for giving me the opportunity to coach and get involved this great club.
All the Best.
