Caleb "Cubby" Isles will play his 150th game for the Noosa Tigers when he takes the field next Saturday when we take on Caboolture.
Cubby joined Noosa in 2006 after playing all his junior and senior football at Koroit near Warnambool in Victoria. Whilst he made Rep teams and played for the Geelong Falcons as a 17 year old it was his ability to play at Senior level down South which saw him find his place in the game and a senior flag at age 16 in 2003 was a definite highlight.
In his ninth season at Tigerland, Cubby (his dad just called him Cubba when he was a little tacker so dont ask him what it means) has picked up three Best and Fairest trophies, in 2007, 2010 and 2013, and played in the 2010 and 2011 premiership winning sides.
Cubby has had three coaches at Noosa and we asked them for a comment on Cubby playing his 150th game, barrng injury, and, assuming he was selected.
The first to respond was Cubbys first coach, Brett Maloney who is now coaching at Maroockydore. Bretts first response was... "Haha, assuming the coach selects him!!! If he doesn't I will!" Sorry Brett but transfers are closed. Brett went on to say. "Cubby is a hugely respected player amongst the competion by both players and coaches. One of the hardest match ups in the competition due to his phenomenal workrate . As resilient, tough and smart a footballer as I've seen with his ability to absorb opposition attention and continually be thinking one step ahead of the game. Sustained elite performances over a long period of time only enhances his reputation. No surprise he has multiple premierships and Best & Fairest awards. A pleasure to coach and a fine achievement to play 150 games." ;;
Cubbys second coach, Fletch, said, "150 Senior games is a marvellous achievement by Cubby Isles a player who is highly respected by his coaches, teammates, all tiger supporters and also the opposing teams for the courage he displays in every contest, the commitment he gives to his team and the consistency with his performances. Cubbys playing record is absolutely outstanding, a dual Premiership player, 3 time Club Best and Fairest Awards and a consistent weekly game day awards winner. Small in size but Big in Heart he is a Champion player, a Champion clubman and an all round Champion bloke who has always got a smile on his dial! Congratulations Cubby Isles on an outstanding effort and good luck in your milestone game."
We say bring on the last round of the season.
When you come to a footy club you look for the guys who stand out as people that everyone has a good word for and who leads by example, and Cubby is certainly a bloke that is popular with all his team mates and people at the club - but just as importantly he is respected by everyone as well.
