Happy New Year to all!
It is with great pleasure this year I have been elected President of our great Club. For those that don't know me I have been a player with Brothers since Under 15's and involved with the Senior Group for the past 19 years.
In this time as well as playing I have filled various roles around the Club including Secretary, VP, Social Coordinator, AUSKICK Coordinator and various coaching roles with both Seniors & Juniors.
I am very passionate about Aussie Rules and our Club, and look forward to seeing us continue to develop.
I am excited about the upcoming season, especially with the Committee that we have guiding the Club.
It is great to see some new faces with Matt Jones(Vice Pres), Sue Ubergang(Registrar) & Mick Rose(Snr Coordinator) joining the Committee, as well as Fiona Stoddart(VP), Nath Hay(treasurer) and Mick Richardson(Secretary) continuing on from last year. This is a great blend of personnel and a group I have full trust and confidence in.
As I said our role is to 'guide' our Club, it is your Club and we want you to have your say so if there is anything that you need addressed or would like to see happen around the Club we would love to hear from you.
This year I see there being 2 main areas we need to focus on:
1. PLAYER RECRUITMENT
From our Friday Night Joeys through Juniors, Youth, Senior and Sisters, we need to boost our on-field playing numbers and whilst we always work hard as a Committee to get our name out there we need the full support of the entire Club to improve in this area.
The best way to recruit is by word of mouth!
Last year we had approximately 150 registered players: if 2/3 of that group can bring a friend down that is an extra 100 players at our Club. It doesn't matter whether they have never seen and Aussie Rules ball or they are an aspiring AFL Footballer - at this point it is about numbers on the field, and strength in numbers is the best way to attack any battle and that will see improvements in on field results.
And with numbers we will attract numbers, if players are seeing numbers at training and full teams on Saturdays they know that something right is happening and they will want to be a part of it. So start talking to your mates now, get them down to training because 99% of the time once they are there most of them love it and want to stick around.
2. VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT
The operation of a footy club on a day to day basis is a huge challenge: throw in our home game days and there are plenty of things to be done around the Club. That being said it is a simple case of 'many hands make light work'.
With 150 registered players, factoring in parents, wives & girlfriends there must be 300+ people directly involved in our Club, if everyone of those people can offer us 1-2 hours of their time throughout the year then it is not a challenge at all.
Whether you are a 9 year old playing on Friday night, a youth footballer playing your first year, a senior footballer that has been at the club for 30 years or a parent that has no understanding of our game, there is a job that you can do.Don't wait to be asked, all our contact details are on our Club website, contact somebody and ask what you can do for your Club.
I look forward to seeing you all around the Club this year, I hope to get around and become more familiar with a few more of our younger Roos and hope to see plenty of new faces throughout our Seniors and Sisters. Let's all work together and make sure that that the mighty Roos are top of the mantle piece in 2015.
