The around the Groundsman.
Round 8
Firstly an apology for last week, but we all need a week off occasionally even during footy season.
We’ll do things backwards this week.
Saturday Morning saw Auskick in full swing on the main oval, the kids are having a ball and the talent on display is outstanding.
The big boys headed to Greensborough where all three sides fell short against the green machine.
While the big boys were playing our Afternoon session of “Rooster Wrestling” was taking place. The kids in attendance had a ball. Great fun, lots of laughs and a good time had by all.
Then in the evening it was the grown- ups turn to take in the show, a good crowd turned up to watch a great night’s entertainment, with the highlight being our very own Michael Burr victorious in the Main Event.
A fine will be issued to Ali Fahour who felt that attending “Dreamtime at the G” and hobnobbing it with the Prime Minister was more important than attending a club function.
Well done to all who organised the event, it was great fun. Our next club event is “Ladies Day” this Saturday from 11.30 am. $70 gets you lunch, drinks and great entertainment in the rooms, while the big boys take on Macleod. Contact Robyn on 0407112253 or Lisa on 0433521962 for tickets, or See Deanne at training on Wednesday night.
Now to Sunday and the footy action.
The under 9’s took to the top oval with the Yellow team kicking it off against Bundoora Park and the Blue team followed on with a game against Mill Park. Again both teams displayed great team work and skills in terrific games of Footy. They were followed by The under 10’s who took on Monty in a scintillating display of team footy to wrap up the action on the top oval.
The main oval sure the under 12’s kick off the action against Greensborough, in a competitive performance the team came up a bit short, but continue to fight hard and play to the final whistle.
The 13’s then took on Keon Park, in a complete team performance the side came away with a solid victory on the day.
The 15’s finished of the home action with a hard fought loss against Greensborough, some inaccurate kicking in front of goal proving costly on the day but a very competitive performance.
On the road the under 11’s went to Mill Park, and put in another spirited display, but found the opposition a little bit better on the day.
Research hosted our under 14 Girls, who put on a clinic in how to play team footy and recorded a very impressive victory, While the 14 boys followed them onto the oval to take on last year’s Premiers, in a classic contest the boys closed to within 3 points in the last term, but fell short in a terrific contest.
Just down the road in Eltham, the 16 boys played their hearts out in a classic encounter, Footy can break your heart sometimes, and that was the case on Sunday, the only time Eltham led all day was after the final siren!. The less said about the free kick the better.
Our 16 Girls made the long trek to Laurimar, in a tight low scoring affair the girls fell short on the day, but with the commitment and endeavour on display another win is just around the corner.
Congrats go to the following on reaching milestones this week…. Jaden Vaina (50) and Conor Shorten (50) both from the 12s. Apologies if I’ve missed anyone.
Have a great week, Don’t forget Seniors at Home this Saturday against Macleod for Ladies Day. The Auskickers will be having an afternoon session and playing matches at 1/2 time. Make sure to chher on our future superstars! Finally, its a full Junior program on Sunday, 6 home games and 5 away. Then a break for the Queen’s Birthday. Phew!
See you at the Footy.
