Quake travelled to Riverwood to take on InnerWest Magic on Saturday and scored 3 wins, 2 draws and lost 4 to earn 11 Club Championship points. Brief reports follow.

Academy

Quake ran into a well disciplined and skillful team, as they did the first time they played Magic.  Whilst they tried as hard as they could the Magic boys were just too much for our lads to handle and they were on the back foot for most of the game.  A good effort none-the-less and credit for to the boys for playing hard until the end.

12 Boys drew 3-3

The boys dominated this game for 30 of the 40 minutes building a solid 3-0 lead and looked to have wrapped up the Minor Premiership.  But, in no time at all, the game turned on its head and Magic banged in 3 quick goals to tie things up and it was game on.  In the end a few desperate saves were required from Alex in goals to salvage a point and to keep the boys'hopes of finishing on top of the table alive.  A good win next week should do the trick.

12 Girls lost 1-3 (Brooke Pepper 1)

The girls were right in this against the competition favourites and with the score at 1-1 at the half an upset was on the cards.  An early goal aginst them just after the half made the task a litlle harder but the girls kept their heads up and continued to work hard.  In the end a 3rd goal and a lack of strike power meant the game slipped away.  A loss, but the girls showed enough to say that they will be contenders in the finals.

14 Boys lost 2-4

A good effort saw they boys fight hard to stay in the game and with the score at 0-2 with 10 minutes to go they had a chance to get a result.  The boys did get on the scoresheet and fought to the end but in the end Magic were just too good.  Fantastic effort by Jarrad in goals - he made so many saves we couldn't count them.

14 Girls - Sponsored by JR Electrical – lost 0-6

The girls only had 4 field players and Lauren in goals and were relying on 4 of the 12s playing up to help out.  The score was only 0-2 at the half and it could have been all tied up except for Rosie hitting the post twice with 2 great shots.  All the girls gave everything they had - at one stage all four of the 12s were on at the same time- and did themselves proud.  But in the end Magic were too big, too strong and too good.  Another fine effort by Lauren kept the score respectable.

16 Boys won 7-3

The boys could have been forgiven for taking things easy in this game after wrapping up the Minor Premiership last round but they went about their business calmly and professionally and won this game easily and with style.  The highlights of the game were Conor coming up from his 'keeper position to smash in a penalty and record a rare 'keepers goal and the power finish by Anthony to round out a beautiful team goal.

16 Girls - Sponsored by Macarthur Marble & Granite – lost 0-4

A very credible performance with the girls working hard aganst a good team.  In the end it was the brilliance of Magic's best player that was the difference.  When she put her to the accelerator our girls had no answer.  Great effort girls.

Youth drew 2-2

The boys weren't at their best but did show plenty of heart after falling behind twice.  Magic forged a well deserved 2-1 lead and with 5 minutes left Symo rolled the dice and played Anson as 5th man.  The gamble payed off when the lads'patience and ball movment created space for Anson to smash a shot across the 'keeper and in off the far post to earn a very valuable point.  A win against Dural next week will see the boys finish in 1st place.

Women - Sponsored by Dunsheas United Realty – won 3-1

Much like the 16 Boys the girls could have taken the day off but, hey, this was Magic and a game needed to be won.  The scoreline isn't a reflection of how much the girls dominated this game - it was only some sloppy finishing at 3-1 that kept the score close.  A very solid display and the girls may have done themselves a favour by knocking their arch rivals out of the finals.

Men won 6-3 (Dean Lockhart 3, Danny Martinez 1, Mark Symington 1 & Shane Ardle 1)

This was a very good team effort and the boys thoroughly deserved this win.  Quake raced to an early lead only to be pegged back by some individual brilliance from Daniel Fogarty but soon after half time Danny smashed in an absolutely brilliant goal only to be matched by Symo's effort shortly after.  With the score at 4-2 our 16s 'keeper Conor Irwin made his Men's debut and was unlucky to concede from a deflection but then made 2 fantastic saves to keep the lead.  The lads took heart from this and went on to score 2 more well taken fast break goals to seal the win and their spot in the finals.  After their start to the season this looked unlikely but credit to them for the way they have regrouped and for the style of futsal they are playing.

Summary

With fewer losses but less wins than last round our points tally was just 1 short of our tally from our first meeting with Magic.  But Magic's tally was their samllest haul of the season so we can be pleased with our efforts against this perrenial powerhouse this year .

With 1 round to go we have 6 teams in finals or finals contention and we still have the possibility of adding 2 more Minor Premierships to the 2 we already have.  That's pretty good going in anybody's language.

As always……GO QUAKE!
