NEWSLETTER 31/03/09
Only 3 weeks to go now before the season kicks of & still plenty to get organised our small group on the committee has spent a lot of time so far trying to balance the teams, to make sure we have even numbers in each grade & that all the boys are catered for.As we’ve mentioned before numbers overall are really good.
As they stand at present, we have 23 u/12’s, 15 u/13.5’s, 25 u/15’s, & 17 u/16.5’s. We still have spots available in both 13’s & 16’s & I’m confident we will fill up in the next 3 weeks. There is still time if any parents are happy for their child to move up to the next grade to let us know. This is still our preference to balance up the sides. Should this not happen, we will need to rotate players up into the higher grade, to alleviate the problem. Players can play up to 5 games in the higher division.
TRAINING
From this week, we will train on both Tuesday & Thursday nights at 4.30 for all grades other than 16.5’s who will train at 5.30. Please note younger players are expected to train at least one night per week, & the older players both nights. If you are unable to attend, please let your coach know. Training will continue as normal through the school holidays. Please make an effort to attend if you have not gone away.
GRADING
Those of you concerned about “our” decision to nominate for A division, needn’t worry. The big news this week is, the league has decided to combine A & B divisions in all grades this year. All teams will be grouped together regardless of ability & played in the one division. Depending upon the draw, teams will play each other only once. This alleviates the perennial problem of where sides “should” have been graded in the first place. At the end of the season, the top 4 sides will play off for the A division premiership & the next 4 for the B division premiership.
COACHES
We have now finalised all of the coaching positions. We appreciate the commitment given to the club by all people concerned. Please give them your support, in what will be sometimes a thankless job.
They are as follows:
GRADE COACH ASSISTANT Team Mgr
Under 12 Gary Wagstaff Peter Egan Shane Pollinelli
Under 13.5 Michael Turner Dave Hartwell
Under 15 Jamie Herd Peter Higgins Colleen Rich
Under 16.5 Michael Egan Peter Treble
VOLUNTEERS
The personnel in each team is taking shape each week, but we still require several people to help us get organised. We are looking for a Team manager for under 13.5’s, a couple of people to help organise the weekly incentive awards for each team & someone to co ordinate the Canteen & rosters for the year. We also require anyone with first aid ability to act as trainers for each grade each week. This can be a mum or dad. We are an equal opportunity club! As the saying goes, many hands make light work, so if you are willing to spare some time & effort, let me know. This year, we will be putting more pressure on parents to share the load. With 4 teams, (80 sets of parents), the workload increases, & to expect all of the organising to be done by about 6 people is not good enough. If you have any ideas which may help in any way feel free to mention them. Please contact your team manager if you can help.
