The U17’s started off slowly and were told a few home truths by Macca at the 1st break. The message worked and they lifted their game, and played 3 good consistent quarters. Once they realised how wide the ground was, they started to bring the ball through the middle and this paid dividends on the scoreboard, winning by a large margin. Also like to mention, that although the Colbo side was undermanned, with quiet a few little blokes making up the numbers, they need to be commended for their efforts, they never gave up and played some good passages of footy.
Best Players: J. Reddish, M. Byrnes, M. Wright, N. Reddish, P. Hicks, J. Harding
The 2’s came out and took over from where the U17’s left off and kicked 4 goals in the 1st quarter while keeping the Colbo side to no score. This was the match winning quarter, even though they played some good footy for the whole game. The backline continue’s to be solid and with Bowlsey looking threatening up forward, the side continue’s to improve and are now sitting fifth on the ladder, but will need to put some wins together to cement this spot. Colbo came back hard in the last quarter, but it was a credit to the whole team that they held strong -- as we had no bench for the whole game and to run the game out on the big Colby ground is a huge effort. (there are some blokes who seem to think they can just turn up when they feel like it, much to Darren’s disgust, and I am sure this will be looked at when he selects the team.) On a better note, it was good to see Wrighty back for a run, and Chris took his opportunity to have a full game and really played a solid game. Well done to James Brittain, who took a heavy knock last week, but came along and did the running for us… Best Players: Thorno ( another great game in the ruck and snuck fwd for a goal, Bowlesy ( a great asset up fwd ) , J. Ancrum ( keeps winning the hard ball) , Chris( great effort in defence) , Poops (really showing his leadership across the centre , Britto ( using his pace and body to the teams advantage)
The good 1ss quarter form continued on from last week for the Seniors with an 8 goal to 3 score at the 1st break. It was a complete team effort with all players contributing for the whole 4 quarters. This win still gives the team some chance to get into the 5 over the coming weeks, and if they continue to improve and finish off the games as well as they have been starting, it is certainly obtainable. With the Coaching staff giving the players a chance to play in various positions and some U17’s coming up for a run, this is sure to be of benefit to the team as we get into the latter part of the season. Best Players: Eddie (really showed his class in a dominant display) Beggy (sets up many plays for the team) Noodles (a no frills players who continues to get the job done), H (improves every game with his hard running), Benny (great job in and under around the centre breaks) and Bravo (starting to get some consistency and kicked 4 goals)
