INGLEWOOD INKLINGS
A tough day at the office for our footballers at Marong last week, with all 3 grades well and truly beaten.
The Under 17s came up against a much improved Marong side, and were quickly behind the eight ball. It took until the third quarter for the young Blues to click into gear and play their best football, however with 1 goal 4 for the quarter they failed to capitalise on the scoreboard. The Panthers ran out the game better to record a comfortable victory.
Braydon Welsh was again Inglewood’s best, wihile Josh Guganovic, Cade Cohalan, Zack Dean, Zayne Rowe and Jack Nevins also battled hard.
Injury and unavailability left the Reserves scrounging for players before the game, with Jay Simons and big Murph stepping in to fill the numbers. To the Blues credit the first half was evenly fought, Marong holding a 2 goal lead at the main break. However, Inglewood ran out of legs in the second half with the Panthers taking full adv antage.
Jon Stevenson was back to his dangerous best in the forward line bagging 4 majors, while Mal McLean, Clayton Chapman, Ash Durie, Benny Quick and Beau Ritchi joined him among the best players. Players Auction went to Mal McLean and Clayton Chapman.
The Seniors were looking for a repeat of their last performance against the Panthers, but started slowly and found themselves 3 goals down at quarter time. The second quarter was a forgettable one with Marong piling on 6 goals to nil, not through Inglewood’s inability to find the ball, but more through simple skill errors and turnovers. The third quarter was easily Inglewood’s best, as the Blues started to use the ball better, however the final term started in poor fashion, Marong winning the clearances out of the middle and scoring heavily in the early parts. Inglewood did manage to stem the tide in the second half of the final term but it was a big final margin to the Panthers.
Isaac Douthie enjoyed the full forward role, kicking 3 goals, while Jayden Sheean was again Inglewood’s best, followed by Darcy Crapper, Dave Rose, Pat Hartney, Jake McInerney and Brett Wilson.
Today we host Calivil United at the Hibernian Hotel Oval. The Demons have battled over the past month or so, and will be hungry for a win. We know that 4 quarters of our best football is capable of bringing home our first win of the season.
GO WOODIES!
NETBALL
We travelled to Marong and it was an opportunity to back up our previous wins, and for some teams to reverse the final score of the first game of the season.
Each week the A Grade girls have steadily improved and this week was a classic example of their improvement. The first half of the game was very even and our girls matched the Marong girls and the difference in the score at half time was only about 5 goals. Whilst our second half was still good, Marong were able to increase their lead and they ran out the winners on the day. Best players were Tayla Simpson and Sarah Weideman.
Our B grade girls played on Friday night at Flora Hill stadium. The girls have been working on particular aspects of their game and this really showed throughout the game. They controlled the game from start to finish and coach Sally Sheahan was pleased with their flawless performance. Best players were Jade Harris and Teagan Phillips.
This was a game that the C Grade girls wanted to win. They were keen to reverse the final score from round 1. The first quarter was evenly matched and there was only 2 goals the difference in the score. The second quarter our girls really showed Marong what they could do and they controlled the second quarter convincingly. The end result saw our girls win comfortably by 10 goals. Best players were Kristy Noonan and Emily Williams.
After the bye last week the C Reserve girls were pleased to get back onto the court and consolidate their top two position on the ladder. It was a physical game and the girls showed everyone why they are sitting in second position on the ladder. In the end it was another comfortable win by the girls.
The Under 17 girls also played on Friday night at Flora Hill stadium. The girls played well and there were patches of good solid netball. Coach Di Wayman was pleased with the way the girls kept trying throughout the match. With each week they gain more experience, their skills are improving and this should boost their confidence. Best player was Gabi Imms.
The Under 15 girls played a solid game of netball and pleased coach Nat Rodwell with their general around court play. The girls are working and training well as a team and steadily improving each week. Best player was Zali Smith
The minis played an awesome game and scored lots of goals. They had great passages of play during the match. Their attacking and defensive play is becoming their strength. Encouragement award went to Jessie Martin and most disciplined award went to Hailey Patterson (congratulations Hailey on your first goal as well).
SOCIAL NEWS
Good Food + Good Music + Good Company = a great night, which was certainly the case on Saturday Night at our Annual Ball at the Inglewood Sports Pavilion. There was an excellent turnout of footballers, netballers and supporters and the dance floor got a solid work out. Well done to Kristy Noonan who puts in a power of work throughout the year organising our social calendar and the Annual Ball is the centrepiece of her work. Thanks also to everyone else who worked to make the night a success.
Following today’s match we have our iPod Shuffle night. $250 will go to the person who’s song comes up last on the playlist. Should be another great night.
Don’t forget the Goods and Services Auction will be held at the Hibernian Hotel on Sunday July 12th. Make sure you have organised an item to be auctioned as this is our club’s biggest fundraiser and the date is coming around quickly.
