Spectators found the wet and windy conditions very difficult. It was a hard slogging affair. At half time the scores were Primrose 2 . 4 . 16 Dunolly 1 . 4 . 10
When the rain came just after second half Dunolly adapted themselves better to the conditions. Dunolly added 4 goals 4 points to Primrose 1 goal. Primrose lost star player Robert Evans early.

1st Quarter Dunolly opened brightly. Hurford after marking strongly sent in a long kick but it was touched. Williams twice sent Newstead forward but Dunolly sent them out. Play see sawed until J. Polinelli received a free. His kick fell short but it was well marked by J. Cain at CHF who coolly posted the first goal of the match.
Good play by Jim Peart and A. Spiker sent Dunolly forward where Deledio goaled with a great snap. Graham Watts suffered a leg injury and he was replaced at this stage and this was a severe blow for Dunolly. Dunolly was going in harder and teaming well. Newstead was being well held across their HF line.
2nd quarter Newstead were quickly into attack and then O' Grady goaled, Dunolly quickly replied through when Hurford tore through the pack to run into an open goal. Peart sent Dunolly forward again but Strong saved with a great mark. The kicking of both teams was well below standard.
Williams kicked a goal for Newstead. As the ball went back to the centre T. Hurford limped off with a recurrence of his knee injury. Centremen Williams and Raselli were playing wide of each other. Newstead attacked for most of the quarter but shabby kicking only gave them 3 goals 5 points. The youthful Dunolly side had battled hard.
3rd Quarter Dunolly were quickly into attack. Deledio snapped a goal and then G. Polinelli superbly kicked a goal off the ground and Dunolly had a 7 point lead. Newstead attacked but were held out. Lanfranchi in a brilliant move dodged several players but his kick just went wide. Jim Peart & then Noel Beasy both goaled.
4th Quarter Newstead took charge in the final quarter kicking 5 goals 2 to Dunolly 1 goal 1. At the start of the quarter Raselli and Lanfranchi were playing well and they combined to move the ball forward where K. Flett passed to Jim Peart who goaled. However, Fyffe passed off 2 goals for Newstead and when Oxley and Garsed goaled the game was Newstead's
