Grand final - Woori Yallock v Healesville
The Bloods missed all of their early chances, and then gave away several needless free kicks to hand the Tigers a big quarter time lead, 5.4 to 0.5. Despite an early goal to Larkin (H), Woori soon extended its lead to seven goals in a fiery second quarter. Larkin and McIntosh led Healesville’s amazing comeback late in the piece, helping the Bloods to boot six consecutive goals to reduce the margin to two points at half time, 8.5 to 7.9.
Woori attacked from the first bounce of the third quarter and, helped by some more undisciplined Healesville play, put on seven goals to four to lead, 15.8 to 11.14. A goal to Burr (WY) at the start of the last quarter made the margin four goals and sparked another brawl. Healesville attacked relentlessly for little reward before Hay finally converted, and then Hay passed to Fisher for another goal. The Bloods were definitely on top now, and they went forward again for Hay to reduce the margin to three points. Woori defended desperately in the final minutes to hang on and win the club’s first senior premiership in twenty-three years.
Woori Yallock 16.11 (107)
Healesville 14.20 (104)
