The Mitcham boys were counting their lucky stars last Saturday after a wet and wild week the weather gods were kind with a fine, sunny day and a round 6 clash against The Upper Gully boys on a reasonably good deck - the preferred option to a trip later in the year to Kings Park when the ground and weather may not as been as favourable.
The under 19s were disappointing this week and while injury has played some part NO doubt the coaches will see this week’s bye as a good opportunity to work on some areas of their game. Both Reserves and Seniors fared much better with the Reserves winning by a couple of goals and the Seniors always looked to have the game under control with Chris Hoegel the star booting 7
Under 19's:
It was a tough and frustrating day at the office for Under 19's on Saturday. Several of our key players were again missing but that was no excuse for the mediocre display our boys put on. We were intimidated by a bigger, stronger and skilful outfit in Upper Gully who simply had a greater hunger to win the contested footy. Our inability to hit simple targets and our lack of pressure / work rate around the ground, made it hard for us to stay in the game. Tom Blanche, Tommy Peace and Ben Joseph were by far our best contributors for the match. Their ability to stick to team structures under immense pressure was one of our only upsides. The bye this week comes at a perfect time. We will continue to work on the areas of our game that have let us down over the last fortnight. With 5 players coming back into the side after the break, we expect a far better output from our boys in the coming weeks. Thanks to our parents and supporters who continue to support us in massive numbers each week. Your support is greatly appreciated by the players and coaches! See you all at Ringwood where we will be right behind the Reserves and Seniors for two big games of footy!

Reserves:
We headed up the road to Upper Gully this week to face a side that has only had one loss for the year sitting 2nd on the ladder so it was all ahead of us to turn last week’s loss to Boronia into a win and be 3 and 3. To play four quarters of solid footy was what we needed to get a 3 goal win, it's was terrific to see the boys intensity at a high level all day starting with our pre game and warm up. Kings Park is huge ground and our running game was the key to getting the points, Bluey continued his form with super game getting first use at the stoppages and centre bounces along with 3 goals, Paul Quon played his best game for the year kicking 3 and being a great target up forward along with Trav Murphy, Phil Muscara up forward provided awesome pressure and attack at the footy all day, our rucks were dominant with Toddy and Emmo, and Ruddy across half back was just outstanding in his run and carry. Converting on our opportunities is still a work in progress as we had 19 more entries for the day so we need to take our chances when they come around. Very pleased with our effort and I'm looking to this week against Ringwood to string 2 wins together, well done again to the Seniors 6 and zip! And a big thank you to all our supporters who came down, the boys really appreciate the support.

Seniors:
We travelled out to upper gully to face a very good opponent who had only lost once for the season. We knew we would have to come prepared to play and bring our best football to get the win. We focused on starting well and were able to do so opening up a handy lead at quarter time. Our 2nd quarter was also very good as we spread well from the contest and used the ball well going forward. The third quarter was tightly contested with not many goals kicked and we went to 3 quarter time with a 5 goal lead. Upper gully kicked the first goal of the last quarter and looked full of running, to our credit we were able to weather the storm and kick the final 5 goals to run out comfortable victors. Chris Hoegel found his best form with 7 goals and Jarrod Witnish led well from the front all day. Thanks to everyone who came out to support us, we look forward to seeing you out at Ringwood this week.
