The Grand View Hotel Bayside Bombers made it 5 from 5 last Saturday night with a 27 point victory over the Redcliffe Tigers at Alex Hills.
The Bombers never looked back after quarter time after a six goal to one opening stanza that set up victory for the home side in front of a packed Bomber park. Darren Smith again kept the goal umpires busy with 3 goals, but the ruck work of Russ Bagnall feeding the likes of Mike Tait and Timmy White saw the Bombers stitch the game up early. Key defensive players Brad Carr and Russell Crowe were strong across half back holding Redcliffe to just 3 goals up to half time affording the Bombers a 25 point lead at the long break.
With Ada Roberts sweeping across half back and Clint Dunning (2 goals) racking up possessions the Bombers again kicked away in the third quarter, but it was Knackers Ellis who with continual contested possessions from centre breaks including 4 hard ball gets, the Bombers had 8 inside 50’s for the quarter but could manage only 4 scoring shots for a 3.1.19 return.
With the night dew settling at Alex Hills, the bar becoming vocal and the Bomber ladies enjoying a few champagnes, the Bayside boys let slip in the last to be outscored, but for the locals inaccuracy kicking 1.4, the Bombers still came home with win number five from five starts by 27 points.
‘5 from 5, we have the momentum, we now need to be consistant and continue to press forward, our starts are great and we can hold from there, no complaints here” coach Mike tait said after the game.
