CDHBU are celebrating their premierships this Saturday at Coreen against the Billabong Crows. The Club are welcoming back players from the 2005 Reserves side, 2006 Senior side and the 2007 Senior side to celebrate their success 9, 10 & 11 years ago.
The three flags will be unveiled before the senior game at 2.10pm and the players can catch up while watch the senior game against Billabong Crows.
Then after the game a meal will be available as the players look back on their achievements in 2005, 2006 & 2007.
Players are coming back from Perth, Darwin, Queensland, Canberra and Portland for the day, so it should be a great day out at Coreen.
Everyone is most welcome to come out and catch up with the players. A bus is leaving from the Newmarket hotel at 11.30am to take people out to the game.
Here is a quick look back on those premierships.
The Reserves under coach Pat Minogue will be back to remember their 29 point triumph against the Murray Magpies in the 2005 decider.
After finished second on the ladder after the home and away games the team lost to the Magpies by 27 points in the second semi. The side hit back in the Preliminary final to demolish Coleambally by 48 points to have another crack at Murray Magpies.
The boys went in at half time trailling by a goal, but after half time the side hit their straps as they kicked 4 goals to 1 in the third quarter to lead by 15 points at the last change. The side ran away in the last quarter kicking 5 goals to 2 to run out winners 14.8.92 to 9.9.63.
Brendan Cornell came out of retirement half way through the season and kicked 5 goals in the final, while Charlie Cay, Brendan Holmes and Andrew Norman all kicked two goals in the win.
Charlie Cay was brilliant taking out the Best on Ground award, while Andrew Norman was very good as well take out the second best on ground award. Other players to play well were Denis Tomlinson, Steve Talbot and Andrew Bevan.
While the seniors will return to celebrate their back to back triumphs under coach Jarrod Hanrahan in 2006 & the last premiership in the old Coreen League in 2007.
In 2006 the team finished on top of the ladder losing 2 games during the home & away season. But those 2 loses were to Coleambally and in the second semi the side was totally out played by the Blues as they were 61 points down at three quarter time. The side got back some pride in the last quarter as they went down by 33 points.
The side hit back in the Preliminary final as they down Rennie by 43 points to have another crack at Coleambally.
In the Grand Final CDHBU were out of the blocks quickly and with Doug Lavis on fire and Murray Longmire having the ball on a string the Power kicked 6 goals to 1 to lead by 32 points at quarter time.
The second quarter was a real arm wrestle with the Blues kicking 5 goals to CDHBU’s 4 to cut the lead to 27 points at half time.
The third quarter was all CDHBU’s as the kicked 7 goals 6 to only two points to have a massive 73 point lead into the last change.
CDHBU then cruised to victory in the last quarter taking out the contest by 81 points, 21.17.143 to 9.8.62.
Doug Lavis was on fire up forward with 8 goals, while Glenn Edwards chimed in with 6 goals along with Leigh Bedford with 3 and Mark House with 2.
Murray Longmire took out the best on ground award with 38 disposals while Lavis was the Runner up best on ground. Other players to play well were Coach Jarrod Hanrahan, Shayne Mathews and Jeremy Sandral.
2007 was the last season of the Coreen League and CDHBU finished the home & away in second spot on the ladder with 10 wins and 5 losses.
They took on the Crows in the second semi and looked in trouble at half time trailing by 28 points. But the side turned it around in the third quarter kicking 7.5 to 1 point to lead by 18 points at the last change. They ran away in the last quarter to win by 35 points.
In the grand final they took on the Crows again and with Mark House on fire in the first quarter they put the game to bed early kicking 7.10 for the quarter to the Crows solitary point to lead by 51 points at the first change.
The side grew the lead at every change as they saw out the final Coreen game with a record Grand Final winning margin as they won 24.19.163 to 8.2.50.
Doug Lavis kicked 8 goals and was supported by Leigh Bedford with 4, Jarrod Hanrahan with 3 while Danny Dal Tio, Troy Habermann and Damian Mollison all kicked 2 each.
Brad Talbot was named Best on Ground while Shayne Mathews received the Runners up Best on Ground. Others to star were Mark House, Jarrod Hanrahan, Doug and Paul Lavis.
