Tigers down but show some spirit.
The Rococo Bistro Noosa Tigers went down to ladder leaders and arch rival Maroochydore last Saturday to the tune of 25 points in front of a massive Weyba Road crowd on a day that featured our First Ladies lunch (which attracted over 120 guests), Legends game that coincided with our 2016 Past Players Day and a fitting tribute to a past Tiger great and life member Frank Bates certainly made for plenty of action prior to the main game.
On a sizzling July day it was the favourites who dominated the home side with outstanding tackling and pressure and if not for inaccurate kicking for goal could have had the game sown up by half time. The Roos led Noosa by some 6 and a half goals at the main break with a boisterous Tiger faithful concerned we may be in for a blowout. However the Noosa side came out with plenty of heart and grunt and began making inroads into the deficit as their pressure and general attack on the contest rose. Once again, if not for poor kicking for goal, the home side may have even been closer than 22 points at the final change. The last stanza was a scrappy mistake riddled affair where neither side showed any real dominance with Maroochydore running out 25 point winners and the gallant second half Tigers left to lament another home loss and look ahead to a must win home game against the 2nd placed Mayne if we are any chance of snatching a double chance or more realistically a home final.
Our two ex AFL stars Brent “Beema” Moloney and Robert “Bushy” Copeland were just brilliant the entire day for the home side showing all at the ground what effort intensity and skill is required to succeed. Brett “Angel” Duke battled manfully in the ruck whist Lambourn, Sutton and young Corey Boardman never gave up in a disappointing result.
The legends game in near 30 degree heat was very enjoyable but also worrying as yours truly continued to check his pulse as fitness concerns were mentally prevalent. A big thanks to Butch Smith and AJ for organising a fantastic day and to see Noosa Tiger legends like Chapple, Langan, Maher, Vagg, Tindal, Bunney, Hersey et. all. out there running around. Just awesome!! Not to mention once again hearing the words of one of the Tigers great coaches in Alan 'Grumpy' Smith. Again, inspirational.
As mentioned, a more than fitting minutes silence was given to Frank Bates who lost his battle with cancer last week. Batesy was a multiple senior premiership player, respected coach and mentor, life member and AFL Sunshine Coast Hall of Famer who will be sadly missed at Weyba Road.
Win, lose or draw the Noosa Tigers showed that they are a terrific football club last Saturday.
See you at the footy.
Cheers Pittsy

RESERVES
I could tell in the first 5 minutes we had come to play! We addressed a few things at quarter time which helped us massively. Sam Friend was back from a couple of weeks in the Seniors; his ability to find space and hit the ball with speed is amazing and he to top things off he finished with 3 majors and best on ground.
Our fill-in captain full back Scotty “PI Magnum” Wagner is soon becoming a cult figure with the group and he just doesn’t get beaten. Our leading goal kicker (the human ball of muscle) Seb “Sebalicious” Clift was playing his role for the team perfectly.
It was close real close all day and the comments after the game were “wowee, reserves footy has improved a lot”, and, “what a great game of football”.
Dylan Murray has improved out of site and I’ve given him things to improve on and it’s working for him perfectly. He is always first back to help out the other five defenders.
Another pleasing sign was Benny Fullers game; he is coming good at the right time of the season.
Maroochydore kicked two unbelievable goals in the last 4 minutes of the game to take the win. I know a lot of my boys and myself were very upset with loosing that one but very positive at the same time. Maroochydore have been winning by 10 plus goals every week. The finals should be very interesting. The most positive thing to come out of the game is our game style; our game can match it with the best team of the comp . Special mention to Logan Thornborrow, our ruckman, who vomited so much before and during the game due to illness.
Bring on Mayne this week.
Cheers Danny
