SENIORS
There was a lot at stake again for the Redbacks against Diamond Creek on the big Coventry Oval today. The first quarter was tight and low scoring which continued in the second quarter as neither side was able to break away although the Creekers made the most of the opportunities up forward. In the third term the Creekers edged in front and had a handy lead by three quarter time. However, the rest of the game belonged to Panton Hill as they kicked 6 unanswered goals and a couple of posters that could well have been majors. The move of Tommy Blake up forward was pivitol as Tyler Scarce kept pushing the ball forward and there were some terrific goals to firstly Tim Duckworth, along with Tyle Scarce, Brendan O'Connor and Josh Chapman. Will Box was solid in defence but Travis Miller was the best of the backmen with a best on ground performance. The midfield was bolstered by a great game by Reid Staples and Jarrod McGough enjoying the spaces on the wing whilst youngster Jonty Rushto provided options up forward all day. The Hills have now placed themselves in a strong position to avoid relegation, but need another win in the next 2 weeks to assure their fate.
RESERVES
We’re a good side for about 3-10 minutes a quarter for most weeks and it’s a shame we just can’t put together a full quarter and even a full game to get the reward we really need. We need that full game conviction to reward everyone who’s stuck by the team all season in what we knew would be a test for us in Second Division in 2014. Last week Diamo showed us how to go about it but it was terrific to see Sam Montanaro get plenty of the footy wearing himself out toward the end of the game. Support was good from Noodles, Carson, Pratty, Brad “The Mummy” Samson and Andy Garcia yet again !
Next week “The Stars” visit us at Cracknell and we’re aiming to take another step beyond our last and improved encounter and pinch ourselves a win !
UNDER 19'S
Today the under 19s came up against a much more experienced Diamond Creek team. Our boys while being undermanned and out played never gave up and continue to run out games. Our young U19s are no different to GWS in the AFL. We are young, have a lot to learn and are coming up against bigger and much more experienced teams but never take a backward step. When you look back on our games and evaluate our performances you can see consistent improvement across the entire playing list each week which is pleasing and probably the main reason why we have been able to keep a great core group of players together throughout the season. With two games left we're now looking at staying competitive in these games while of course looking to win these very winnable games on the scoreboard. Better players last week were: Jackson Mill, Scott Thompson, Daniel Freeman and Ross Marshall.
